How to Recruit Fenris in Dragon Age Ii

Recruiting Fenris in Dragon Age II is done early in the game, during Act I, and can be accomplished soon after you gain total access to Kirkwall. You must first complete A Business Discussion to unlock it, done by accessing The Hanged Man soon after you meet Varric.

Once that’s done, you’ll unlock the quest Bait and Switch. Go back to Gamlen’s House in Lowtown and check out a letter sent to you about a job offer. It will direct you to a man in Lowtown called Anso; meet him in the evening and you’ll learn that you have to check out a house nearby on behalf of Anso’s client.

Set the mission on your map via the Journal and head to the house. Clear it out – there will be several enemies inside – then go outside once you’ve checked all the treasure chests. You’ll be ambushed by another team of enemies. Waste them all. When you do, a strange, white-haired elf will appear.

This is Fenris. He’ll reveal himself as your benefactor, and ask for your continued help in another matter – though he stresses that time is of the essence. You must come with him immediately. If you refuse, or even if you delay in offering your help, Fenris will remain stubbornly beyond your grasp. Agree to help him on the spot, then head to the house in Hightown he wants to invade.

This is the home of Fenris’ former master, Danarius, though now it’s just filled with Shades. Clear the creatures out as you move from room to room and, in the central hall, you’ll face a tougher fight against a bunch of cronies and an Arcane Horror. Go for the Horror first to negate its magical might, then wipe out the weaklings.

Once the house is emptied Fenris will decide to wait around for Danarius to come back, and join your party while waiting. You’ll have more dealings with the Tevinter Mage eventually, so be prepared for some interesting battles in the future.
