How to Reset Game Center

A simple guide on how you can "reset" your Game Center account. This will reset your game list and achievements as well as any friends added.

Most of us have gone through this issue. Something goes wrong with your iPod Touch or iPhone, and your forced to restore the iOS to factory settings. You then start playing your favorite Game Center Enabled game. During gameplay, you unlock all your past achievements again. You go back and look at your Game Center info page and, what’s this? 1 game(s) and 100+ Achievements? You then delete your game trying to remove it from the Game Center info page but no use, now it says 0 game(s) and still 100+ Achievements. As hopeless as your situation may seem, there is a way to fix it.

I had this very same issue with my iPod touch. I had jailbroken it and decided to restore my iOS, but before restoring I had forgotten to delete my games off of Game Center. I log back into Game Center to find 0 game(s) and 122 Achievements. I looked through all my settings and tried to create a new account. What I didn’t like about this approach was that I needed to use a new email address. Out of desperation, I called Apple Customer Support only to be put on hold. After listening to their horrible waiting music, I finally got a hold of a representative only to find out that they had no way of resetting Game Center data. Discouraged, I hanged up and started to try to find a solution. Five hours later, I had finally unofficially ‘reset’ my Game Center data.

The Procedure

Step 1: Create a new email address. Use an email service provider such as Yahoo! or AOL. Remember the email you create, it is needed to complete this ‘reset’.

Step 2: Through iTunes, log into your account using your Apple ID and password.

Step 3: On iTunes, click on ‘Store’ on the toolbar. Then click on ‘View My Account (your email address here)…

Step 4: Type your Apple ID and password into the window that pops up.

Step 5: You should now be on a screen called ‘Account Information’. To the right of your Apple ID, there should be a button titled ‘Edit’. Click on it.

Step 6: Put in the email address you created on step 1. If you have credit card information, delete it before continuing.

The rest of the procedure takes place on your iDevice!

Step 7: Open up Game Center on your iDevice.

Step 8: Edit your username by clicking on ‘Account: (your email adress)…’ Then change your username to something like ‘Account no longer in use’ or ‘Account now void. Save the changes. Once back at the home page click on ‘Account: (your email address)’ then click on logout.

Step 9: Click on ‘Create New Account’.

Step 10: Go through the account creation process, but when it asks for your email, put in the original email of your Game Center account.

Step 11: Continue through the account creation process, inputting all your information just as it was on your old account, including your old username.

Step 12: Once the account creation process is complete, log into your newly created Game Center account by using your same exact information from your old account!

This is currently the only way to ‘reset’ your Game Center account. Please note, this is not an actual reset, you are simply creating a new account with the information from your old account. If this helped you, please let me know! As for now, enjoy your newly ‘resetted’ Game Center account!

Actualy I found a much easier way to do this. Simply go to your game center account and click on your email adress. Then click sign out then click sign in where you will see the new accept option. Yes you will lose your games and achevments but it’s much easier

I have had that exact problem I have been wanting to fix it. But I didn’t realize it is this complicated. :(

I can not thank you enough for posting this. Maybe I’m an idiot, or Apple is just too “intuitive” for me, but I was having the most frustrating experience with a piece of technology ever until I read your tutorial. Thank you!

Doesn’t work because you have to create a new apple id when you want to create a new game center account.
