Insects Putting The Boot in (Poem)
A poem with a humorous look at the British national game of Football.
This is the tale of a team of fleas
Playing five-a-side football with a team of bees
Having to meet for an important match
Fame and ability about to hatch
First they knocked out the Wasps and Flies
They should have paid rugby scoring tries
Then in the next rouond they were playing with class
Long legged spiders who just didn’t last
Round number three followed without any pain
Knocking out the grasshoppers just the same
Round number four was a great deal harder
The opponants the dragonflies were very much larger
Getting much nearer to the final game
Round number five was becoming vicious in name
In this round the hornets were about to begin
To fight in round six is the quarter finals they’re in
Round number seven is the semi finals play
Where the last four teams fight all the way
In the last two teams both the flies and the fleas
Do all that they can for their manager to please
The semi finals were each played inside two saucers
The owners of each team were still mere paupers
Players were each warned not to to get injured or cause sorrow
Because the winners of each game would be in the cup tomorrow Leslie Lewis
