A Tutorial On one Of My Best Smudge Tags: Tomb Raider Legend.

This is the outcome we are going for:

Open anew Photoshop document and set the size to: 400 x 200, then grab the Gradient Tool and set the colors to: #e4a750 and #371b1e make sure its set to Radial. Then click and drag from the center of your canvas to the right edge to create this effect:

Using the the Tomb Raider (click on image below to get the full sized render) place it in the center of the canvas, then duplicate it 3 times (you should have 4 renders in separate layers). After doing so turn off the top 3 renders.

Now grab the Smudge Tool and use these settings:

Be sure to check that smoothing is on. Then smudge the render and set the layer to linear dodge (add). It should look like this:

In this step you’ll need to turn on the next layer, It should look like this:

and then using the same smudge tool settings as before, smudge the render and set it to linear burn. The Result:

Turn on the next layer the same as you did before and using the same smudge settings smudge the render and leave the layer blending mode to normal, it should look like this:

Now turn on the next layer and leave the render as is, add your desired text and remember use the colors within the tag and keep it small and close to the render. Text can make and break a tag its your choice to add it. Result:

Create a new layer and take a large soft brush in black and brush on the outside edges (left end and right end) To add some type of darkness to it, Result:

Ch in create a new layer and with a small soft brush in white brush 2 round circles around the guns fire and set it to hard light, Result:

Create a new layer and apply the image, Then using the dodge and burn tools start brushing in the light areas and the dark areas (Dodge tool = Light Burn tool = Light) this should be the result:

Duplicate the layer twice and flip one of them vertically and the other horizontally then erase around the focal to get this result:

It is only ones preference but you may or may not add a border, this is my result with a border:
