Minecraft – Beginning in Survival Mode
Confused about starting out in minecraft survival mode?
Wondering how to start in single mode in Minecraft?
The first thing you should aim to do in survival mode is to make a shelter before it gets dark. If you are playing for the first time it is recommended to make cave shelter. You can begin by collecting Logs from trees. This can be easily done by holding on the left-mouse button while aiming at a tree block. I would say, gather about 15-20 logs, and then craft it into wood by dragging the logs into the crafting grid (2×2) in the inventory menu (by pressing I). If you are unsure what I mean follow this link – http://adf.ly/101402/minecraftcrafting. After crafting the wood then put one block of wood in each crafting slot (by grabbing the wood blocks and right-clicking the spaces) to craft a workbench which will use a 3×3 crafting grid.
Once crafting the workbench you can drop it on the ground by equipping it and then right-clicking it onto the ground. You can pick it back up the way you harvested the logs. You’ll want to craft a pickaxe. Right-click the workbench and some sticks (sticks can be done in your inventory) and a pickaxe.
Once you have crafted a pickaxe you will need coal (for torches). Torches are needed to light up your shelter, not only to see but also stop enemy mobs (e.g. creepers) from spawning in your home. Coal can be easily spotted on cliff edges or in holes in the ground.
Once you’ve struck coal find a good place to make a cave shelter. Dig in and place your workbench down. If you want you can make a door to cover the entrance or use wood or cobblestone to cover the entrance. Make a sword in-case a monster breaks in. If you do this all before dark you can make a landmark so you don’t get lost. Most people make a very high tower made of dirt near their home as a landmark. You will need a landmark because every world is randomly generated.
Sometimes you may not achive making a shelter on your first day in the world. This can be because you are new to this game, or that the resources you need were not spawned near you.
