Minecraft for Kids
Mincraft is a computer game that kids love. Why is it so appealing?
My 8 year old son and all of his friends just love the computer game Minecraft. But what is it all about?
Minecraft is a “sandbox” building game. Players can mine for raw materials such as diamonds, gold, stone, and build structures with the materials. The graphics are crude, based on square blocks which are all pieced together to make the basic look of the game. Players can also collect materials and then put them together, called “crafting”. They can craft TNT, weapons, clothing, and many many other fun items.
There are also a variety of creatures in the game. Chickens, pigs, and cows can all be raised on farms or found wild in the grass. Wolves roam the land. Creepers are zombie-like creatures that will come out at night to attack people. They can break down doors, too. Skeletons use bows and arrows, so watch your back!
There is also a legendary bad guy called “Herobrine”. Nobody is sure if he really exists or not, but the legend says your character will have nightmares if he meets Herobrine.
When you enter a world, there are many random villages and natural structures to explore. The best part about Minecraft is that players can build their own houses, and other buildings. The designs can range from simple huts to extravagant, lavish castles. Just beware of the creepers! You don’t want them to destroy your home at night. Also be careful how far you dig underground. My son was making a sewer under his house, but there happened to be molten lava under there, which eventually caught the house on fire and burned it down.
