Most Popular Video Games of Recent History

Here is a list and synopsis of the top five video games in the recent video gaming world.

Many video games have gone in and out of popularity over time but here are some that have remained “Classic”. I personally love all these games.

Goldeneye 007

(Nintendo 64) Appears in 14 out of 32.

A very fun shooting single player and multiplayer video game. The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews and sold over eight million copies. It is considered an important title in the development of first-person shooters, and has become particularly well-known for the quality of its multiplayer death match mode, as well as its incorporation of stealth and varied objectives into its single player missions. It is featured in several lists of the greatest video games of all time.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

(Super Nintendo and Gameboy Advanced) Appears in 17 out of 32.

An old but very fun Zelda game. It was well-received since its release, and has been listed by GameSpot as one of the best installments of the series, as well as one of the greatest games of all time. To date, A Link to the Pasthas sold more than four million copies, and has been re-released for the Game Boy Advanced and the Wii’s Virtual Console.

Tetris

It and its variants are made for most all game systems) Appears in 19 out of 32.

Tetris is a very simple game with enjoyable game play. While versions of Tetris were sold for a range of 1980s home computer platforms, it was the hugely successful handheld version for the Game boy launched in 1989 that established the reputation of the game as one of the most popular ever in many opinions. The 100th issue had Tetris in first place as “Greatest Game of All Time”. In 2007, Tetris came in second place in IGN’s “100 Greatest Video Games of All Time”.

Super Mario 64

(Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS)  Appears in 20 out of the 32.

Subjectively by far the most “Classical” game out there. This game you can play for hours and still be entranced by its captivating story line and enjoyable game play. Remastered in the recent game system the Nintendo DS. In going from two to three dimensions, Super Mario 64 placed an emphasis on exploration within vast worlds in which the player must complete multiple diverse missions, replacing the linear obstacle courses of traditional platform games. While doing so, it managed to preserve many game play elements and characters of earlier Mario games. It is acclaimed by many critics and fans as one of the greatest and most revolutionary video games of all time.

Legend of Zelda

Ocarina of Time- (Nintendo 64) Appears in 22 out of the well known 32 game informing magazines.

The Legend of Zelda series of game have always been popular. From the oldest to the newest they have been loved by children to adults. Most of the games give a young guy named Link a series of quests that he must complete to become a “hero” Many of the games have Link saving a princess Zelda. Almost 8 million copies worldwide.  Ocarina of Time is the fifth game in The Legend of Zelda series in terms of release, but is set before the first four games. The game is considered by many to be one of the most influential or greatest games of all time.
