On Flash Games 49 – Crush The Castle 2
Derivative, but fun.

Greetings, dear readers. On Flash Games catapults to its 49th edition, covering yet another Armor Games title, Crush the Castle 2. Give it a fling here on Kongregate. Let’s vault right to it: this game is Angry Birds. Add a medieval coat of lacquer, change hurling birds with a touchscreen to shooting rocks with a catapult, change the green pigs for the enemy King and his court and you’ve basically made this game. What Crush the Castle 2 fails to deliver in originality, it makes up for with simple appeal: everything you’d like about a game like Angry Birds, you’d like about Crush the Castle. The medieval ambience is nice, horn flourishes on victory and what have you. There are different things you can fling with your catapults, from logs to stones to iron spheres to bombs and beyond, but this is nothing the mad avian game didn’t do first. Chances to microtransact extra features exist, but my wallet stayed in my pocket. This game is certainly undeserving of a full five stars for lack of originality, but picks up three for pleasant execution.
Author’s retraction, July 22, 2012: I stand corrected – Angry Birds was released in December 2009, Crush the Castle’s first game was released four months prior. I’m revising my rating to 5 stars.
