10 Reasons Why I Can’t Wait for The Old Republic Star Wars Mmo
Bioware is in development of a fantastic new Star Wars MMO called The Old Republic.
10. Everyone is voice acted. Everyone.
Thats right, every single NPC in the whole game is voiced. That means thousands and thousands and pages of dialogue set right in the Star Wars universe. Imagine how immersive this game will be?
9. The cinematic trailer is fantastic.
The high-definition cinematic trailer gives me goosebumps every time I see it without fail. If only they would make a movie using this animation… Check it out. Do yourself a favor and watch it in HQ.

8. Huge, expansive universe.
The Star Wars universe is a big place, and Bioware wants to make it explorable. They promise multiple planets to explore and countless areas. In face they already have some areas they can show you, search for it some time.
7. Moral choices.
When you make your character you get to choose either a “dark side” class or a “light side” class. This isn’t new to an MMO, what really makes it fantastic in this new game is the addition of moral choices within the side you choose. You could be Timmy the Kindhearted Sith or Al the Jerk Jedi, it’s up to you.
6. It’s being developed by Bioware.
Bioware has developed some of the best games of all time for the PC, and most of them RPGs. Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and many, many more. If this new MMO is even slightly as fantastac as these greats I can’t wait to play it.
5. Awesome classes to play.
So far the folks at Bioware have said there will be 8 classes in the game, (4 dark 4 light) and they have announced three. On the light side Trooper, a grizzled storm trooper or clone trooper type, and Smuggler, a Han Solo renegade dirty fighter. On the dark side they’ve announced only the bounty hunter, a Boba Fett, Bossk, IGN88 Mandalorian type armored badass. Beyond these three we can guess Sith and Jedi, so that leaves 3 more classes. I can’t even begin to imagine how awesome the last three will be.
4. World interaction.
Among the lofty promises levied by Bioware is the goal about having what the players do in the world affect things. Imagine if you could romp around the Star Wars universe changing the landscape and the politics of the world? I get chills just thinking about it.
3. It’s freakin’ Star Wars.
Seriously. Its a Star Wars MMO that doesn’t look like it will suck. The Star Wars universe is massive and deep, Bioware has a lot to take from and make their own. Also, the game is set in the time of the Old Republic, a fantastic time where Jedi and Sith ran wild. All Star Wars fans are intrigued by this time.
2. Combat looks fantastic and interactive.
The few videos of combat we’ve seen look like an adrenaline rush of action and adventure. Troopers throw grenades, bash people with rifle butts and volley lazer fire on enemies. Sith pick up and throw enemies, force choke them and chuck corpses into other grunts, while Jedi deflect lasers and force push hostile foes off of buildings. Yeah, it’s that good.
1. Promises of reduced grind.
Those of us veteran to MMOs know there’s one thing that charicterizes them above all else: the grind. The monotony of killing the same enemy hundreds of times all in the name of EXP. Bioware has promised us less of the “Go get me 10 Gundark spleens, please.” quests and more of the “Storm this sith fortress and extract the prisoner!” type exciting quests. For me, this is fantastic news.
So now you can see why I’m so excited about this game. Are you? Chime in below in the comments!

Quick, fix it before some forum troll sees! In number 6 you wrote “Neverwinter Knights”, it’s actually “Neverwinter Nights”. Hurry, before it’s too late.
Nice article though, I had never seen that sweet trailer before. Thanks.
10 Reasons why as an MMO Vet that been playing since UO will pass this game.
1) Its Starwars, Starwars is horrible.
Moral choices, crappy like Mass Effect
2) There are way better MMOs coming out from the leading MMO Company, NCSoft
3) Its made by Bioware, go back doing Dragon Age, you don’t have expierence with MMOs
4) Promises of reduced grind, yea right all RPGs are Grind, grind in MMOs is great.
5) Everyone is voice acted. Everyone, even though its same voicework for different characters like Oblivion.
6) Awesome classes to play, that is everyone runs Jedi like in SWG.
7) Combat looks fantastic and interactive, except we know that its only for CGI, we know how MMOs play.
9) The cinematic trailer is fantastic, just like Warhammer was
10) Huge, expansive universe, different planets, nevermind Planetside, pretend it never exsisted

My god, Spaggiari, thats what I get for writing at 1AM.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Wow, Senshi, a little bitter, are you?
You are completely right, I should just completely throw away all rationale and independent thought because the great Senshi, an MMO Vet whose opinions might as well be law, said he would pass on what looks to be a great game, based purely on his own personal bias as opposed to actual fact. Thank you, Sir, for enlightening me.
