Runescape is a
3D browser based mmorpg with both free play elements and membership subscriptions. Often criticized for its poor graphics, Runescape is ideal for gamers on a budget and caters for low end PCs. Players must subscribe to members for more content – subscription is at US$5 per month.
Rappelz
allows a free downloadable mmorpg with purchasable special items from the “cash shop”. With three playable races and the best pet system on any mmorpg, it is a favourite among gamers. Note that this game has high minimum system requirements, similar to other games such as World of Warcraft.
Flyff with free downloadable mmorpg and colourful graphics where players can fly around on items such as brooms and boards. Special items require real-life currency to buy.
Sword of the New World: “Granado Espada”
is a free downloadable mmorpg is unique due to their multiple character control system – players can control 3 players at once, instead of being limited to one character per player!
Maple Story a downloadable 2D mmorpg with anime style graphics in which players have 4 classes to choose from, each of which have their own city. While the game is free, there is a cash shop where players have to pay real life money to buy special items.
Ragnarok
has cute anime graphics. This mmorpg is Not Free from their official website, but there are private servers that are free to play on like pre-ro and Ragnarokrevolution
Silkroad Online
have downloadable historical mmorpg based on the history of trading in China along the Silk Road. It may be hard to log on to the servers to play this game. Cash shop available.
Conquer Online
is free to download and play, but “Dragon Balls” which increase equipment power, can be bought using real-life currency.
Entropia Universe
is a downloadable mmorpg with no monthly subscription. In-game currency can be bought at a rate of 10PED = $1. Uniquely, in game currency can also be redeemed back into real world currency at any time – hence, items earned in this game have a real cash value.
Knight Online
there are different companies who host this game based on geographical location, and some servers are free to play while others are not. Currently, the North American host features free-to-play with option to pay for enhanced game-play. Requires DirectX 8.1 or above. This can be downloaded at games for windows games for windows
Plane Shift
a downloadable mmorpg is absolutely free to play, with no catches No monthly fee, no premium upgrades, no advertising on the site or in game. This game has cool graphics, but because it is still undergoing development, there are a few glitches and the servers are prone to instability.
Tibia
a version is downloadable but players have the option to upgrade to premium accounts with additional benefits.
Dungeonrunners is mmorpg is similar to the Diablo series of games. It is free to play, with an option to subscribe to membership at about $5 per month for benefits such as login queue list priority & access to member only worlds.
Lastchaos
is mmorpg is free to download and free to play. The developer Aeriagames also has other games such as Project-Torque, Twelve Sky, Domo and Shaiya (in Beta). All are available for download at Aeriagames
Shadowbane
is free downloadable mmorpg is funded by ads, so don’t be surprised to see ads when your character dies. Character creation is extensive, allowing detailed & unique characters to be created. ShadowBane does not have a quest system but it has the best player-vs-player system of all mmorpgs.
Albatross offers free downloadable mmorpg that is based on golf.
Globalmuonline.com/ is free to download and play. PvP fighting outside duels is discouraged and a player who kills another may become an “outlaw”, a class with many disadvantages.
9 Dragons Acclaim is set in ancient China and martial arts is an important element.
Archlordgame offers free downloadable mmorpg with the option to purchase items in the cash store. Players can choose from 3 races – humans, moon elfs and orcs. In addition, players can compete for the position of the supreme commander over the game world.
Mythwaronline
has 2D mmorpg with beautiful graphics. Players may choose between 4 classes – humans, centaurs, mages and borgs. Special items can be purchased at the item mall for real life money.
Anarchy-online
is a science fiction themed mmorpg, and is usually fee-based but will be free until Jan 2008. However, it has been hinted that this freeplay time limit will be extended.
Eternal-lands is set in a medieval land, this fantasy mmorpg features many humanoid races. Players can choose from 6 races – humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes, half-orcs and draegoni. Note that the latter 3 races are pay-to-play.
Rubies of Eventide although this is a free-to-play mmorpg, there is limited server space so freeplayers may find it hard to sign in. Patrons who pay a small donation will have priority during peak hours. Players can choose between 7 races – human, elf, gnome, dwarf, orc, ogre and leshy.
Fiesta is free mmorpg has cute anime style graphics. Players can choose between 4 classes – fighter, cleric, archer or mage. There are also guild wars, dungeon raids and many monsters to battle.
Voyagecenturyonline
is set in the 17th century & features many adventures at sea. It is free to download and play.

Runescape is the only non-download game that’s actually decent. And I think Sherwood is non-download as well, but I haven’t really tried it. So far, I’ve yet to find a game that doesn’t bore me after a couple of days. I think my expectations have gone up after trying so many games.

Try Adventure Quest at battleon.com , Dragonfable at dragonfable.com , or mechquest at mechquest.com . If you’re a guardian on AQ you can also play Arch Knight. And umm ya I think these are non download games but i’m not sure about arch knight cuz i don’t have an account on that…

Free download. Action based game. Start out as 3 girls you can switch between em anytime: Swordsman, Mage, and Archer.
When you get to lvl 15 You can buy a mission to get a Boy: Ronan
He’s a fire-ice based character and also magic swordsman
Later on once you get better, try for Las, another boy chaarcter Lightning based and a bit of ninja style too. It’s an awesome game, requires keyboard combinations like jump and atk and stuff.
There are special skills too.
And if you choose to you can use real money or buy a game card at rite aid or target or something and use that to buy unique skills and items.
So, try it out. Garentee you’ll like it
It’s brought 2d games to a whole new level, partially 3D.
And there’s not much walking aorund unless in the park or something.
So, once again, give ia try.

Yeah, what Nash said was right, but some people might feel differently for runescape, and yet think other games aren’t worth playing.

Yeah, I’m trying to find non downloadable games like you guys out there. I got really fast wireless internet but it disconnects like every time i try to download something. I tried sherwood online and plays runescape for awhile but they’re limited because they are browser based. I’ve played maplestory and trickster online which are downloadable but I can’t do that anymore. So if you know a good game thats non downloadable share please

well, since all of you are noobs, youll never find a good FREE NON-DOWNLOADABLE game that doesnt bore you to death. try getting a job and paying a monthly fee and downlaoding a game thats actually fun and worth the time playing. i play nexustk for 10 us dollars a month and, by the way,some of the best players in that game are indonesian so whoever said 3rd world countries have slow internet, youre beat. everyone, get a job instead of searching the internet for a game you know you wont find and wasting time when you could be working and playing a game that isnt a waste of time. kthx

no different races… only human 9)for anything other then using a sword (e.g. if you wanna use bow or magic) you have to repeatedly shell out large amounts of gold. (yes i know that its like that in some other games as well but ONLY for rangers and NOT in all of them) most just have the attacks usee MP. 10)No pets/familiar/NPC characters who fight alongside you…..just you…by yourself…always… 11) No signs of upgrading ANY time soon (unless your a member of course in which case your lucky enough to get a few new boring missions)
12) the complete and UTTER lack of the skills having ANYTHING to do with anything else in the game. (e.g. cutting wood. cut some wood. lvl up wood cutting skill. yay. awesomeness. it does nothing for you) do you really need any more reasons?

LOL at the person above this…. i know from experiance runscape sucks cause i used to play it! i have a lvl 54 character, and none of what i said before is made up. sure its a great game if youve got nothing else but seriously people…Minesweeper is more fun then this game. i used to play it a few years ago when i wasnt old enough or have enough money to play anything else…. wich is also a little hint on the age factor in this game, wich isnt very high at all. mostly 10-15 year olds playing,wich doesnt make for very much fun. btw, what do i get out of makeing any of this up?? if anything ive taken a few minutes out of my time to save you the pain and agony of having to tear your eyes out or throw your computer out the 2nd story window from playing this awful game….
ya i played runescape for a while and it is so stupid now, i have a lvl 54 guy and iv’e done like every possible thing there is to do and i did it in like a month i haven;t played it since (which was like 3 months ago)

whoever said runescape sucks, well, runescape actually has quests that have storylines, unlike most mmorpgs such as, world of warcraft, mabinogi, maplestory, and many others, on those games it’s like, you do quests on those games for xp and an items right? and the quests are like kill this, kill that, never anything fun, it’s all just for xp, i bet you play these games hah, but my point is that runescape has quests that are fun, making the game go somewhere, so there is a point, but on world of warcraft and crap it goes nowhere, quests for only xp and an item? what’s the point? leveling? anyway runescape rocks and other mmorpgs suck, besides, runescape has over 100million accounts also, you probably judge games by their graphics.sorry, lol i wrote a book -.-
Alright, so what, some people say Runescape Sucks some say it doesn’t big woop… i personally don’t like, but i do judge it mostly on it’s graphics. I got sick of it after only 3 weeks and haven’t played it in about a year, i don’t know what improvements have been made and what hasn’t and i’m not about to check. And to those of you who kept saying stuff like get better internet conections or faster internet…. some people can’t afford that. And to those of you who kept saying to just get a download game, we keep asking for non-downloads, not downloads… and not to mention the fact that some of us don’t have a gaming PC and so if we down load a game it screws our PC up. I’m now on my last slot for my Keyboard because the last time i downloaded a game, everytime it loaded incorrectly it made sure that the keybord didn’t work. so now 3 out of 4 spots to put my keyboard in don’t work. thats why i’m like one of the many people that are looking for a good non-download game to play…. i’ve tried quite a few games already and none of them are that great. (sorry for the paragraph but i needed to get my point across… ^.^)
no. no no no no no no no and no. in no way shape or form is RS better then anything you could scrape off the bottem of a shoe. it was probably made by some high school dropout game designers, who just needed the extra money from peopl signing up. WoW GW and just about all of the other MMORPG’s ive played ALL have a storyline and quests that go into it. RS is not the first to come up with that idea. and to go with it, that runescape basically IS all about killing things to lvl up your point is just plain invalid now.
If anyone here actually plays runescape and they’re over lvl 60 i know a hell gd place where you get free items…. all the good things are gone…… he used to hav like 5 sets of full black t and a couple of sets of rune t but most r gone theres still free 12 sets of rune and a couple of willow comp bows so i would go fast….. its at… http://www.runescapeaccounttrading.synthasite.com and just clikc items on the left side of the page. hope you get good stuff!!………….its awesome!!

I think runescape is good until you’ve seen better. It’s absolutely not bad at all. You try making a game that good in high school. LOL. I play wow now but i do occasionally get on to see how things are going. BUT STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. WE ALL KNOW ABOUT RUNESCAPE. Another game.. there are none but yes there is!!

“Runescape rocks MMORPG’s suck” Runescape is a mmorpg. Yea i played runescape for a good long while. Then finally i lost interest. It just lost me. It was good for a while but then it got to repetitive. You will never find a game that is good and completly free. There’s always some kind of cash shop that will give you an edge. You guys want games that are free. Go to a couple of these sites. Crazymonkeygames.com, miniclip.com. Yeah that’s right. Flash games. Not all of us can work to get money either. i am 15 so quit telling everyone to get jobs. And im sorry but sherwood really really is terrible. The character customization goes as far as color and maybe a helmet. It’s only kill kill kill. Yay i leveled up. I can now teleport deeper into the dungeon. I lose interest after playing for 10 minutes.WOW is probably a great game but also expensive. If you like Star Wars. Star Wars Galaxies is for you. Best SW game out there. Not free though. But worth it. in depth quests character custom. weapons houses mounts classes vehicles space combat pvp roleplayers guilds entire planets the list goes on and on. Well i’ve ranted on enough. hey runescape has very low foluma damage and hp like a iron dragon that in lv 400 and has 158 hp o.O,a lv 35 from dragonfable can beat that dragon in three hits.ALL the mmorpg has grow damage and hp foluma very much and god of time battle style is weird,you throw your unlitmited stacks of weapons on the emeny!The best browser free game is adventurequest worlds,but i not acctive to aqw.

There are pros and cons to Runescape like everything else. At first, your kind overwhelmed by how it plays but it steers you in the right direction. I do agree with some other posts about how leveling up certain features tend to be reluctant and tedious. I actually played long enough to decide leveling unimportant skills was too much like a job or work. Unfortunately it seems that the creators tried to incorporate longevity by implementing mundane tasks such as pottery or sewing(if those skills are still available). There are upsides to the whole experience though. Join on creating a clan is fun and easy. You can really be engulfed by an epic adventure or tale before you know it. There is plenty to do, but the game is much better played with friends or people you meet. OH yeah, to all those honorable players who gave equipment to noobs, hats off to you! BTW, be careful entering the wilderness, their are freaks just killing off players out there. Also a good place to settle a score.

Actually..there a few that you can play that have the OPTION to download, since this is such an issue… try http://www.dofus.com
It’s really good game, though there isn’t a whole lot for non-downloaded players to do..The download is really small though, and took me no time at all. Even on a slow internet it shouldn’t take much time. I hope this helps a few of you.
Wizard 101 is also non-download..but it kind of sucks XD

I notice a lot of you arguing about whether Runescape is the best or not…Isn’t that really up to the individual? I mean..some people like it, some don’t. Trying to cram your opinion down someone else’s throat certainly isn’t going to make them start loving the game. Personally, I think Runescape is crap, even for a browser game. I much preferred text-based role playing games with interactive features like chat rooms and shout boxes over Runescape. It’s extremely lacking in many areas. But just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean that the next person won’t. So I do believe the runescape argument is a dead issue.

Ok, whoever said Runescape suks… IT DOES! People play it cuz they have nothing else better to do and are ashamed of playing it so they just say its awesome. And whoever said World of Warcraft doesnt have sotryline based quest, it does! Now THAT you can call awesome. It was the #1 game in america 2 years in a row so i wouldnt critizise it if i were you.
