Club Penguin’s History and What It is Now

When and how Club Penguin started, what happened, and how it became what it is today.

How did Club Penguin start? Most players know Club Penguin’s general history. It was first released in 2005, and had several versions like it before Club Penguin’s release. But there’s more to the story than that.

It actually started in 2000 with Experimental Penguins, then a year later when it was taken down, Penguin Chat (which is still existing) was made. Penguin Chat 3 was another prototype of Club Penguin, and is still of great interest (because of a feature in it that was not available in Club Penguin until recently).* Later in 2003, Club Penguin was started, but took two years for its release date on October 24, 2005. Several “improvement projects” have taken place since the release of Club Penguin, and they are like open beta tests to help the developers test their new ideas. Club Penguin saw an extremely rapid increase in users, with several million now from just a few thousand four years ago! Walt Disney bought Club Penguin in 2008 and is offering bonuses to the developers if they reach specific target numbers of new players. Hopefully, Club Penguin will continue to improve as it has been the whole time.

Today, the quality of Club Penguin continues to improve with every update, and the best way to keep it improving is to report any bugs or glitches to the moderators at the site. It will help Club Penguin to become better!

*Penguin Chat 3 is most notable for the feature of ninjas, which were not added to Club Penguin until late 2008.
