Facebook Game Review: Slingo
I’m not sure how to describe the new Zynga game on Facebook, Slingo. Okay, think crazy clown, a 1930ish hot cupid, a weird devil, and bingo with slots. Like Vegas and Disney Land squished together in a weird little acid trip. If you can imagine any of that, then you have an idea of what Slingo is.
I’m not sure I can really explain a goal in this game, except to score and score big. There isn’t a story, or a setting or really anything except the slot machine that looks like bingo. That part is like Vegas, except you will still go to bed in your own bed, there is no all-you-can eat buffet with lobster, and no one is serving you drinks. Well, unless you are lucky. I think this game would be better with a little booze.
This is not the high quality crap that we have come to expect from Zynga. This is low quality crap, but here is the thing. It is easy, repetitive and has instant pay-off with flashing lights, a crazy clown with a wheel barrel full of ‘loot’, and a quirky wink from a cupid that would have put Betty Boop to shame. In that, its brilliant. Zynga has tapped into the repetitive need for instant gratification and the promise of luck, the very thing that keeps Vegas and Atlantic City on the map.
If for no other reason, one could play the game to earn the thirty medals that will get you three mystery darts in Farmville. Then stop and call a twelve step program to help you with your gambling addiction.
I give it two stars. Bleh.
