Online Gaming – Finding Your Allies and Knowing Your Foes

The fun thing about entering a video game that is multiplayer online, is the thrill of being able to talk to real people!

Here’s the down side, not all of us “people” are nice. In the context below, I will show you which types of players you want to avoid, and which type of players can be trusted and become best of friends with you.

Dozen of online games, when creating your character, you have the option to choose facial features, hairstyles but most importantly – your gender. This brings me to the first type of gamers you may meet.

Players who choose the gender of their character, opposite to their own. (e.g.: a man playing a female character.)

-         Some will be any ordinary gamers, fun, friendly and a great person to play with.

-         Others, use this to fool other players into thinking that they match the sex of their character. (Making you believe they are an 18 year old hot blond, when in reality it’s a 63, wrinkly old man.) If the person who’s doing the fooling around succeeds, they WILL take advantage of you in any way they can. Usually, it’s female characters taking over male.

The second type of gamers, are those who pretend to be someone else, in order to take advantage. There was a story on something very similar to this. A young boy, in his teen years, tricked a lonesome 30-year-old woman over an Internet chat to believe that he (the kid) was in fact a lonesome 30-year-old man. As a result, the boy profited a few hundred dollars out of the woman.

There will be people like this on the game or online chat you maybe on. This is why it’s crucial to be very careful, with your private information. Doesn’t mean that every single gamer is a liar, but be on guard as to whom you talk to, or play with.

The third type of gamers, are not really “people who play the game” but can make money out of other poor minded gamers. You may recall them as being called – “Scammers and or Hackers.” There is an easy way to avoid this: “If it sounds too good to be true, it’s a scam.” There is no buts, no argument. That’s the rule! As soon as you start asking yourself, “But what if…” you’ve fallen into the trap. Scammers and Hackers are the worst people you’ll ever meet on the game. While a scammer’s job is to fool you into luring a non-secure site, a hacker will do just about anything to get his hands on your account. As a result, change your password, and play your character, or simply delete everything you had on your account and then give it back to you.

DO NOT EVER; SHARE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION WITH ANYONE BUT YOURSELF!

4Th type of gamers are Spammers. Not as harmful as the average hacker or scammer, but no good news either. They will simply post on the chat forums, or chat window, continuously, to be dominant and throw everyone else of the screen but himself or herself. Some spammers would promote their sites in this way, while others simply Spam stuff related to the game.

5Th type of gamers – noobs. A short term to describe someone who is new to the game. Some people take this word offensive. Also used to describe a very unskilled or utterly hopeless players.

The last type of gamers – believe it or not, are possibly the people who made up “noob” They are the bullies. Their job is quite simple, put everyone else down to make themselves feel strong and powerful. Due to them, some games have introduced a chat filter to cover up swear words and rude, foul language. There is nothing you can do about these kind of people, just make sure to stay away and mind your own business.

And over all guys – remember, it’s just a game.
