A RuneScape Guide to F2p Melee Combat

This guide will teach you how to effectively train and raise your RuneScape character in the arts of melee combat.

A Runescape guide for f2p melee players

This melee training guide will help you raise your combat level, starting from level 3 to the all-powerful combat level of 126. It will inform you of which enemies to hunt and inform you of the advantages and disadvantages of certain monsters.

The Skills

In melee combat, there are three primary attack skills, attack, strength and defence.

Skill points will in attack will help you in accuracy which is recommended if you are fighting a higher level monster/player while strength points will increase the amount of damage you can inflict. Defence will obviously increase your resistance against enemy attacks.

Some Tips

  • When training, make sure you bring food along; otherwise, health points will be a problem. Use level appropriate food e.g.: Trout for lower levels and swordfish for higher levels.
  • The more damage you inflict, the more exp you get. Therefore, bringing some strength potions while you train will be a good idea.
  • Scimitars generally are the most used and recommended weapons for training/player killing but a long sword maybe better if you have a higher attack level.

Training Spots

  • 1 – 15 in this period, killing cows in the field north of lumbridge will be a good idea as you can collect the hides for money and cook the meat drops for food. Training will be quite fast for now.
  • 16 – 30 By this point, you should have Steel armour (5 defence) and a Steel weapon (5 Attack), or even Black armour if your Attack or defence level is 10. If you’re rich enough and have the right stats, go for Mithril armour. At this point, training on Minotaurs at the stronghold of security will be a good idea. They have fairly good drops and fast spawns.
  • 31 – 45 Hill giants are undoubtedly the best choice at this time. They always drop big bones which will contribute to prayer and occasionally limpwurt roots which you can sell on the grand exchange.
  • 46 – 55 the nice flesh crawlers will be a great choice now, with high health, laughable damage and added aggression will help you get past this period easily.
  • 56 – 75 this is the time when damage gets unbelievably high. The poisonous spiders in the third level of the stronghold will give you fast experience and higher damage. Bring plenty of food and a few strength potions and you shouldn’t have too much problems.
  • 76 – 99 Keep with the spiders, they will be slowing down but deal with it. They’ll be the highest exp rate from now on so happy grinding =).
