Acrimonious Taunts on RuneScape Must be Considered Offensive

One way of handling despicable players in RuneScape who swear non-stop is to utilise the report abuse button and just ignore them.

Yet as a prolific player of the game, I have found that some retorts without offensive words may distress players and leave them in a state of despair, which is effectively more efficacious than the certain swear words which are hurled at the target, both having the same intentions.

Insults of such types are usually directed towards high-end players of RuneScape. How many of these have you been a victim of? High level players of RuneScape, myself inclusive, have had to endure tumults of such acid remarks without being able to take action of the assailants. This only escalates them to a higher state of ecstasy, further intensifying the torment which you are in. Without being able to report these abhorrent offenders, there is only one to extricate yourself without undermining your respect: to swear back, which violates the rules of RuneScape.

What do I mean by “retorts without offensive words”? I here give a few examples.

“Awww did those words hurt? Poor baby!” – while runecrafting

“OMFG you pray against a lvl 50″ – when in Fist of Guthix

“GET A LIFE MAGE NOOB” – At duel arena

Knowing that reporting somebody for utterances such as these will be virtually ineffective, victims stand there lost for words. Yet as a player, your instincts tell you not to ignore the player, as that will simply mean that you declare surrender.

Why can such players be let to inflict damage, when sometimes swear words are not actually maliciously intentional? Jagex have already enforced trade limits, and to please us more, they no longer listen to our suggestions – messages are automated. Such remarks as those above must be considered offensive language, and they must be punished to make the game community better – for that is Jagex’s goal, and our wish. By doing that, they will be able to retain customers, their life saving grace.
