Best Ways to Level Your Skills in RuneScape (With Pictures!) W/ Guilds

Some of the best ways to level all your Free to play skills (using free to play methods) along with the guilds that you can enter *NOTE* I didn’t include the magic, range, or fishing guilds as they are only available to members.

Mining- Mining is one of the more profitable skills in Runescape the best things to mine if you are looking for a profit as well as experience are iron, silver, and clay (along with essence if you have completed the Rune Mysteries quest) with a rune pick-ax *note* and will work the rune one is just the quickest available non-member one.  The best mining places I have found are the dwarven Mines (located just blow falador) and the South-west Varrock mine (located just north-west of the Champions guild) Once you have a mining of 60 you are allowed to enter the mining guild. (you can also enter if you drink a dwarven stout (gives a +1 mining boost) at lvl 59. The mining guild is nothing special it has 37 coal rocks and 5 rocks containing mithril. The only advantage is it is usually much less crowded than any other free to play mine you will find.

Shown above are both the South-west mining area (near the Champion guild) and the dwarven mines

Smithing- The best way to level your smithing quickly requires you to buy A LOT  of steel bars and smith them start out making the best possible things you can until you hit level 48 smithing then smith steel plates. The best place i have found in a non-member world would be the varrock smithing area (located just south of the varrock west bank)

Fishing- The best way to level your fishing is to fly fish the the barbarian village (look at the map below) you can fish trout and salmon there (you need a fishing of at least 20 to fish trout and 30 to fish salmon) you can also if you want cook the fish in the main hall of the barbarian village or in the helmet hut.

Small map of the barbarian village (note the fishing spots)

Cooking- The best way to get 99 cooking is use the cooking guild to your advantage, in other words make lots and lots of apple pies! if you get sick of them (which probably won’t take long) then you can always wander out into the bandit camp to make pizzas. Fat Tony is always happy to sell his pizzas bases for 4 gp each and there are tomatoes and cheese that spawn in the same building for you to use along with the rats that you can hunt for meat to make meat pizzas If you take a small net there is also a fishing area you can fish anchovies to make anchovie pizzas. On the first floor of the cooking guild you will find a sink (used to make doughs obviously) and a chocolate bar that once you have reached 50 cooking people can use to make chocolate cake. The second level has 2 ranges, 2 cooking apples (only used for making apples pies), 1 pie tin, 1 cake tin, a bowl, and a churn (members only). The third and final level of the cooking guild contains the hopper (used to make flour) a jug, a grape (used for wines), a pot, and one more cooking apple. Right behind the cooking guild is a small wheat field. The main advantage to the cooking guild is it’s so close to both the Grand Exchange and Varrock Banks.

Route from the spirit tree to the cooking guild

Cooking guild is just a short walk from the Grand Exchange

Firemaking-apart from woodcutting this is perhaps the most boring skill to get to level 99 all you can really do is buy/cut the best possible wood and burn it until you hit level 99

Woodcutting- the easiest skill to get up to 99 just cut oak trees until level 30 then cut willows until 99 (if you want to you can also cut yew’s to make a profit (they sell for about 400 each))

Crafting-to start out crafting i would recommend killing cows and tanning the hides to make the best possible leather products you can if you would like you can also buy the leather from the Grand Exchange (although i would highly not recommend it) do this until you hit around level 23 then i would recommend making tiaras until 99 but if you wish to you can do this until you can start making jewelry from emeralds, rubies and diamonds. Once you hit level 40 you can also go into the crafting guild this building (located just a little south-west of Falador) this place has 7 gold rocks, 6 silver, and also 6 clay to your disposal. On the first floor there is several potters wheels, a pottery oven, a sink, a jug, an amulet mould, a chisel, and a hammer. On the second floor there is 2 spinning wheels, a leather tanner, a tiara mould, an unholy symbol mould (only available to members) a holy symbol mold, a ring mold and a necklace mould, and a pair of shears available. Behind this building is a cow farm to collect leathers.

The crafting guild is just a short walk away from The white city (Falador)

Runecrafting- It is considered one of the more boring skills to level up but i find it one of the most interesting because you can basically help your magic along or make a good sum (less for non mems but still some) of money from making and selling runes. In order to even start this skill you must first complete the Rune Mysteries Quest. The best ways i have found to level up Runcrafting are to craft air runes with a pair of air runcrafting gloves (available at the Fist of Guthix for 75 tokens) Some people will say that its better to make fire runes or to make earth runes but the fastest runes to make are air. Once you have achieved a level of 50 in runecrafting you will be able to enter the Runecrafting guild. You can enter the guild in the Wizards tower on the second floor. When you first enter you will probably notice lots of different machines around these all serve no real purpose other than looks. If you are a member you can talk to the Wizard Elriss if you show her enough talismans she will reward you with the omi-talisman. You need to show her the air, mind, water, earth, fire, body, cosmic, nature, law, death, and blood talismans in order to receive this talisman. She will also grant you a small amount of experience for each talisman you show her. The main reason people go to the Runcrafting guild however is for the

Great Orb Project, a mini game only available in the Guild. In order to start this game you need to talk to either Wizard Vief (for the yellow team) or to Wizard Acantha (for the green team) there are 8 levels to the game (only 6 for members)

  1. Air
  2. Mind
  3. Water
  4. Earth
  5. Fire
  6. Body
  7. Chaos (Members only)
  8. Nature (Members only)

You cannot be holding anything in your hand when you start the game because you will receive tools to use in it. (the nearest bank is in Draynor so plan accordingly) each level will last 2 minutes. You will be given 3 different wands to use during the game. The point of the game is to get as many orbs of your color (either yellow or green) to hit the altar before the 2 minute time limit is up One wand attracts the orbs (best used near the altar) one orb repels them (best used facing towards the altar or to mess up the other team) and one is the barrier want (which forms barriers that orbs cannot pass). At the end of the round the team with the most points win. You will also recieve a few pieces of essence from each game that you play (ie. the air altar you will get some, the mind you will, so on and so on) If you chose to use these essence you will receive 2 time s the experience if you use those ess at the altar you got them at. You can use them at any altar you want but will not receive the bonus. You will play 6 (or 8) rounds of this and the team with the most wins at the end wins the game you will receive tokens (even if you lose) the list is

  • When it’s a tie, you get 500 tokens
  • If you lose you’ll get 0-200 tokens
  • If you win, you’ll get 100-1000 tokens.

The tokens can be turned in for any of the prizes below

*you can only buy 50 of any item at any given time*

Runecrafting guild rewards

The staff can be used to make a talisman staff just take it to Wizard Korvak and he will gladly make you a staff. Also any rune essence bought at the guild become noted. The robes give you a bonus. (show below)

Combat (defence,strength,attack)- Combat is one of the most common training things There are 3 different things attack (how accurate you are) strength (how hard you hit) and defence (how little you get hit). The 3 choices are available on all weapons available in the game but some allow you to combine them and share experience (stab with a scimitar) The best way to train Combat is to fight almost anything until level 40 (ish) and then fight flesh crawlers (3rd level of the Stronghold of Security). You can also fight Hill giants (lvl 28) which can be found in a hut just west of the cooking guild (need a bronze key to enter) or in the lava maze deep in the wild (lvl 40-45). Once you hit around level 65 (ish) i would recommend sailing to karajma and fighting lesser demons (you can also find them in the wilderness volcano.

Range- The best trick is to get to 50 range fighting whatever you would like (i would recommend some kind of wizard (weakest against arrows) I use the Dark wizards just outside of Varrock. Then once you hit 50 go to Cranador Island (only available after you have completed Dragon Slayer) and use all the rocks and hunt the Moss giants. After you hit a higher level (I would recommend somewhere between 75-80) go back into the volcano and hunt lesser demons.

Prayer-Is the hardest skill to level up by far but also the most rewarding when you do. The best trick is to really just bury every bone you find. The best non-member bones are big bones (sometimes called bb in Runescape) which give you 15 experience per bone (compared to regular bones 4.5 experience  or monkey 5 experience per) Once you have achieved a prayer of 31 you will be allowed to enter the prayer guild (just east of Edgeville. Behind the Monastery is a small flock of sheep along with a small garden filled with 9 cabbages and some roses (in a members world you can collect the seeds of the roses) In the main courtyard of the Monastery is some monks (lvl 5) which are good for training if you are looking for a few bones. The second level however is only available to anyone with a prayer of level 31 or above. Up there is Brother Jered who will bless your holy symbols (made in crafting). There is also a very special altar up there is looks identical to all the others but this one will give you 2 more prayer points than you have (they will disappear once you log out though), there are also monk robes which give you a prayer bonus top give you a +6 bonus to prayer and the bottoms give you a +5 bonus

Magic- The best way to level magic is to reach around level 35 by anyways you can (just using magic on warriors and such then head to Fist of Guthix (located in the wild just walk north from Varrock) This is a very good place to train because they give 2 sets of runes that you can use for any spells that you can cast. Once you hit level 43 i would recommend using superheat item and once you hit 55 use high level alchemy until you hit level 99

Hope you enjoyed my guide *please note* these are not ONE set way to level up your skills eveyone has different ways of doing it this is simply the way that i have found that works the best.
