F2P RuneScape Fishing Guide
How to master one of the most profitable skills in the game.
All of the items needed for fishing can be bought either on the grand exchange or at the fishing store in port sarim.
1-10
To start out you should catch shrimp with a small fishing net in draynor village
Items needed
Small fishing net (50gp on the grand exchange or 5gp in fishing store).

As you can see there is a bank very close to the fishing spot. Although shrimp will not sell for much banking them is much faster than dropping them. When you reach level 10 fishing you can sell your shrimp raw on the grand exchange for 8 gp each or you can use them for cooking. These levels are very fast and should only take you 10-15 minutes.
10-30
I recommend catching haring and sardine.
Items needed:
Fishing rod (60 gp on grand exchange or 10gp in fishing store)
Fishing bait (3gp in grand exchange or 2gp in fishing store) you need one for every fish you catch (bring about 500 save the extras)
This can be done is the same place as you caught the shrimp (draynor village). When you get too 30 fishing sell you herring and sardine on the grand exchange for 31gp (herring) and 16gp (sardine) or keep them for cooking. These levels are still pretty fast it should take you about 30 minutes to get to level 30.
30-65/99
At this point you can start catching trout and salmon in barbarian village.
Items needed:
Fly fishing rod (79gp on grand exchange or 30gp in fishing store)
Feathers (6gp on grand exchange or 7gp in fishing store) you need one for every fish you catch.
When fishing here I recommend you bring at least 1000 feathers at a time. You can either drop the fish you catch for the fastest levelling or you can run north and bank in edgeville. Depending on how good you are at dropping items, for the average dropper you save like 10 seconds if you drop your fish each time. Trout sell for 30gp each on the grand exchange and salmon sell for 80 gp each.
When you get to 50 fishing use the rest of you fishing bait (from when you catch sardine and herring) to catch pike. Pike are catch at the same place as trout and salmon but with a fishing rod and bait. Pike sell for 65 gp each on the grand exchange.
Once all you fishing bait are used up you can return to catching trout and salmon. This is the fastest way to get 99 fishing in f2p however there are some methods that make more money.
65-99
Fishing lobster is a great way to make money in runescape.
Items needed: lobster pot (75gp in grand exchange and 35 gp in store)

The boat in port sarim takes you to the blue dot on the dock in karamja then you can just follow the path and go through the banana field to the fishing spot (circled in red). There is likely going to be many people here most of the people will only be 40 or 50 fishing so you dont really have to worry about them taking you lobsters. Remember you need to bring 30gp to take the boat to port sarim.
To bank take the boat back to port sarim and run to draynor village or if you have 37 magic teleport to falador and bank, then run south back to port sarim and take the boat to karamja. I would recommend you finish the lumbridge achievement diary so you can use the cabbage port teleport which brings you just north of port sarim, you can then run to draynor and bank, and then use the cabbage port teleport again the run south to port sarim and back on the boat to karamja. Lobsters sell for 360gp each on the grand exchange.
85-99
You can now a high level fisherman and can catch anything you want in F2p at a pretty good speed so I recommend swordfish.
Items needed: harpoon (55gp on grand exchange or 35gp in fishing store)
Fishing swordfish is almost the same as lobsters except you get half swordfish and half tuna. I recommend dropping the tuna and only keeping the swordfish as the tuna are only worth 125 gp each and swordfish are worth 540gp each on the grand exchange. To bank use the same methods as described for banking lobsters.
Dont forget your 30gp to take the boat to port sarim, nothing is more frustrating than having to go back to the bank for your 30gp because you forgot it.
