Gaming Clans [Part 1]: The Purpose

Gaming clans are common in most online gaming communities. There are different types of clans, some consist of only “pros” to dominate other clans. Others are more of a social group that play games and socialize together. Some are in between. Some people think they’re a waste of time and have no purpose and some are really dedicated to their clan. Clans have many different purposes, including socializing, making friends and having fun together, being part of a community and playing competitively.

The first type of clan I’m going to cover is the social type. In this type of clan, members make friends, interact with each other and have fun. Most of the time, the clan is based around one or a few games so members have a common interest and can have fun together. The main purpose of the social clan is for a group of players to socialize and play together.

Another type of clan is what I refer to as a “pro” clan. Members in these clans are usually highly skilled in one or a few games and play against each other or other clans for fun, pride and sometimes money. The members usually know each other well and can communicate to each other effectively. There is a social part to these clans, but they may not be related to the clan ; usually the socializing is done outside of the clan as friends.

Finally there are the clans in between, where there is socializing and competitive play. These clans can vary from small groups to a large community. Their purpose is for members to play together and have fun.

There are many reasons why someone may want to be in a clan. By being in a gaming clan, you belong to part of a group. Everyone contributes to it, and it benefits everyone. Clans allow you to meet new people, build friendships and establish them, play video games competitively and as a team and most of all, they can be lots of fun!
