Greatest RuneScape Updates

I’m a Runescape player who started playing on February 2007. After played for about 2 weeks, I’ve decided to become a member because I thought that it will be very slow to advance if I keep playing in F2P. At that time, even after becoming a member, making 50K was so hard and could take hours to complete. 3 weeks later, my Internet was permanently disconnected due to late payment so I stopped playing Runescape until June 24, 2009 when I’ve found out that my newly installed dial-up connection can play Runescape with a satisfiable speed.

However, when I started playing again, I’ve found a lot of changes after these two years. There are so many changes but I think these 7 updates are the most significant updates that change the gameplay of Runescape a lot :

1. Grand Exchange

This is in my opinion is the greatest change in Runescape. Thanks to this, it’s now possible for a level 3 player with level 5 mining to get 100K per hour by mining clay. It also helps a lot for those who want to sell their stuffs without going to specialty store or screaming around in World 1 with hope someone will buy their stuffs with a good price. Thanks to this too, I could buy a full Saradomin Armor Set which cost about 3.8 Million within 3 weeks. 2 years ago, I didn’t even know how 1 million look like in the inventory.

2. Trade Limit and Net Wealth Transfer Features on Trade Dialog

I was surprised when I’ve found out that I couldn’t giving away 10,000 to my friend. The trade is now based on the Quest Points and with 44 quest points, I could receive 10K per 15 minutes. Every items you add to the trade will also have their total real price visible to other player. Now the popular scam like swapping expensive items like Rune Platebody with Iron Platebody is no longer possible because of this. It’s mostly a positive change but I do missed people who did this kind of scam.

3. Request Assist

At first, I have absolutely no idea what it is but after about a week playing Runescape again, I’ve finally found out that it’s used to assist people with skills. The assistant will receive the experience and the one that asked the assistance will receive the item that needs an assistance to be transformed into something good. Thanks to this, now it’s not possible to do things like Gem Scam where you would promise other to cut their gem for free but instead taking it forever from him.

4. Rest Option and Musician

On June 9, 2009, Jagex released a rest option along with Musicians scattered around Runescape World. It’s definitely help a lot of Runescape players to regain their Run Energy with fast speed. This new features have surely improved the times it takes for the money-making actions that required running and hence raise the profit you could get from them. Some players also spent their times listening to musician to hang out and meet new people.

5. Clan Chat and Clan Wars

This new features has certainly made significant changes to Runescape. People can now chat freely with a lot of people at the same time without having to be near to each other. Clan Wars also made it possible for both F2P and P2P players to hang out and fight for fun.

6. Fist Of Guthix

This new minigame (for me) is a great way to compete with each other when you’ve started to get bored with Runescape. This is the only place for F2P player where it’s possible for a player to beat another player who’s 20 level higher in combat from him by being tricky and slippery.

7. Removal Of Negative Effects Random Events

Negative Effects Random Events like Tree Spirit or Evil Chicken has been permanently removed when I’ve returned to Runescape. It’s not really positive for me because sometimes it’s good to suddenly fight Rock Golem as an extra fun activity when you’ve spent hours on mining and started to get bored. Most of the Skill-based Random Event creatures are now banished to the hidden place called Enchanted Valley (Fairy Ring Code : BKQ).

There are many more updates that happened within 2 years but I don’t think they’re as important and significant as these updates.
