Guide to 99 Ranged on F2P RuneScape

A guide on how to train ranged in Runescape the best way.

Introduction:

Ranged is a very powerful skills for pking and against many monsters, though you have to pick up your arrows on F2P, which can be a nuisance when training. Ranged is the most powerful against magic users and monsters if there is a safespot. It is cheaper than magic, because you get most of your arrows back. In F2P, the best armor for ranged is green d’hide body, vambrace, chaps, and coif, though a regular leather coif may be preferable as it is easy to replace. This can be combined with a power amulet, cape, boot, explorer’s ring for better effect and protection. The best ranged weapon is maple shortbow with adamant arrow.

Level 1-5

To start off, you need some coins. Buy a shortbow, an oak shortbow, a willow shortbow, a maple shortbow, a leather set, a power amulet, and 500-1000 iron arrows, this will cost you between 13k coins and 21k coins. Buying one of each bow helps because you don’t have to visit the grand exchange until much later. First, go to the chicken coop either north of Lumbridge or south of Falador and start killing chickens with range until level 5 range, wear your leather armor, shortbow, iron arrows, and power amulet. At level 5 ranged, switch to oak shortbow, but keep the iron arrow. Always pick your arrows!!!

Level 5-20

Train on the cows south of Falador, if you want to pick up the hides, which can give you money for further ranged related transactions. If you are not interested in the hides, go to the one by crafting guild, as it is usually empty.

Do this till level 20 ranged. At level 20, switch to willow shortbow, but keep the iron arrows on.

Level 20-40

Now you have the option to train ranged only or ranged and defense combined. Ranged and defense combined split the experience evenly between ranged and defense. Switch to maple shortbow, and go range hill giants south of the Grand Exchange. The area is fairly crowded on most worlds, but you should be able to find a good world with less people. You should always use safespots, unless you have a defense level of over 40 and a ranged level of over 40. You can take the bones and the drops and sell it on the Grand Exchange to make a profit. Refill your arrow supply if needed. Do this till level 30. At level 30, switch to maple shortbow and continue doing this. At level 40 ranged, buy a d’hide vambrace, chaps, and a d’hide body, this will cost you about 10k coin, which you should be able to pay easily.

Level 40-55

At level 40 ranged, go kill hobgoblins, which are located north of the hill giants in the dungeon, the peninsula near crafting guild, on Crandor, or in the Asgarnian Ice Dungeon. Try to kill the level 28 ones first until level 50 ranged. Only pick up your arrows, coins, limpwurt roots, gems, and runes. Bank if your inventory gets full. At level 55, sell your loots, iron arrows, and buy 1k steel arrows.

Level 55-70

If you haven’t, do the Dragon Slayer quest, but you will need melee, as you cannot hold a bow and an anti-dragon shield at the same time. After doing Dragon Slayer, wear you d’hide body. During these levels, range the moss giants on the island of Crandor. Always bring 7-8 wines with you as you range the moss giants in the safespots, just in case.

Bury the bones if you want prayer experience. Otherwise, leave them on the ground or sell them to other players cheaply. Always pick up the runes, gems better than a sapphire, arrows, and if you can use the alchemy spells, all armor except for steel med helm. This way you will stay a long time at this place.

Level 70-99

Now, range the lesser demons on Crandor with steel arrows. There are two demons there and a giant safespot rock, and it is usually empty. Lesser demons don’t drop many unstackable things, so a trip maybe well over an hour. Always bring 4-5 wines with you, so if the demons hit you, you can heal.

Good luck on getting a ranged skillcape!!! =D
