How to Become a Successful Pker in RuneScape (F2P)

A closer look at possible PKing methods.

These days, Runescape PVP is dominated by a variety of “specializers”. Whether they call themselves strength pures, range pures, or mage pures, they always dish out a lot of damage.

One major problem with PVPing is that it may take up a lot of money. Getting gear, arrows, and runes is costly. Therefore, you might be interested in earning more money.

My article “Four Ways to Make More Money in RuneScape (F2P)” fully explains how to get more money.

Regardless, if you want to be amazing at PVP, you should consider becoming one of the following:

Range Pure

Stats:

  • 60+ Range
  • 1 or 40 or 70 def
  • As much HP as possible

Range pures are obviously pvpers who specialize in ranging. In the free to play worlds, they typically rely upon adamant arrows and maple short bows. There are many variations of a range pure. Some choose to maintain 1 defense. Others choose 40 or 70 defense. The choice in terms of defense is purely strategical and based upon preference. Defense levels at 1 allow the user to maintain a lower combat level, whereas defense levels gives the user access to better armor. Remember that the idea here is to maintain a low combat level with high stats, allowing for maximum dominance in the pvp worlds. Overall, these guys dish out a lot of damage and are extremely dangerous. Their only drawback is that it takes some time to get a high range level and the arrow cost is relatively expensive, but they still are very successful.

Str Pure

Stats

  • 60+ str
  • 40 atk
  • 1 def or 40 def

Strength pures are extremely dangerous. They can hit ridiculous amounts of damage even in the f2p worlds. Overall, their sole advantage is that they allow high combat stats and allow a low combat level. This is absolutely critical because having that low combat level is what makes a pvper successful in his or her level bracket. The advantage of the strength pure is the volatility in damage. In one second, you might deal out 5 damage, in the next, you might deal out 20 damage. This is the sole concept behind a strength pure and allows the pure to dish out those critical KO’s. Of course, the only drawback is that the low attack may cause problems in terms of your hit rate/accuracy. Regardless, these guys prove to be very successful in the f2p world.

Mage Pure

Stats

  • 59+ Magic
  • 1 def or 70+ def

Mage Pures are great in terms of their ability to stay at a low combat level and do large amounts of damage. From my understanding, it is possible to have a significant magic level without gaining too many combat levels. This allows you to cast high level spells against the opponents in your same level bracket. As a result, you’d basically be dominating the field with your spells. The advantage of the mage pure lies solely in their ability to stay at a low combat level and yet cast high level spells which are the killers.

Mage pures generally need 59 magic or higher in order to cast fire blast on the free to play servers. They might also consider either keeping their defense at 1 or raising it to 70 to become a “mage tank”. Both has its advantages and disadvantages. Once again, it’s a matter of preference.

So overall, it’s all a matter of preference. Pick a class that you enjoy, and stick with it.
