How to Not Get Hacked on RuneScape
There’s so many scams out there. You’ve got to be careful.
First off, I’ve been hearing lots of scams out there on the internet just to get your Runescape password. It’s so pitiful. You see, most of these scams come from our natural greed. We want more “stuff” like gold or items. In order to get more of such gold, we fall for silly tricks.
So, let’s get this out of the way. If you really want to make money safely, check out my article: “Four Ways to Make More Money (f2p).”
It’s legit. However, if you’re just here to learn about how to not get scammed, consider the following:
- Don’t EVER give your password or username away. This is so obvious, but so many people do it anyway. Here’s the scam that someone will make: Gimme ur password and I’ll get u ten million gp. I promise. I won’t steal anything. So at this point, some people might have fallen for this trick. Just remember, NEVER give your password away even to Jagex. Besides, if you think about it, Jagex already knows your password, so if someone claiming to be Jagex asks for yours, don’t.
- Don’t try to cheat. This means that you shouldn’t use bots, hacks, or other programs to put yourself at an advantage. The reasoning here is that many files you download can contain viruses. Use your head. Why would random people off the internet randomly put programs for people to download for free? Executable files are risky, and they might contain what we call a “keylogger”. These things steal your account. So, bottom line, don’t cheat. You might end up losing your account from a hacker.
- Watch out for things that are too good to be true. If a random person off the internet claims to want to help you gain full dragon armor for free, will you believe that person? What if he said he was from Jagex? What if he said he could make all your stats level 99? At what point will you break? The answer should be never. Never ever give in to these deals that are way too good to be true. Remember that each level you gain on Runescape comes from hard work. It comes from playing fair.
- Don’t play password games. I’ve seen this trick played so many times. It goes a little like this: Hey, did you know if you type your password in to Runescape, it censors it? Yeah, type your password into the game. Try it. It’s really cool. Unfortunately, this trick actually has worked on the more gullible populations. Just remember, never, under any circumstances, type your password anywhere. It will be your major regret.
- Watch out for fake login pages. Jagex stresses this all the time. “Stay away from fake login pages.” In case you don’t know what this means, a fake login page is a login page designed to look like the real Runescape login page, when it’s actually connected to a hacker, not Runescape. If you type your password in a fake login page, you are spoonfeeding your account to another hacker. The way you look out for fake login pages is by looking at the URL box at the top of your screen. It should say something like: “runescape.com”. Anything else becomes extremely fishy.
Guys, watching out for scams is tricky business. You can make a mistake so fast. But this is extremely important. A little bit of common sense goes a long way. Good luck, and stay away from traps.
