Is RuneScape Getting Too Easy?

The ever growing MMO Browser based game RuneScape have recently been receiving complaints that the game is getting too easy, let’s find out why.

From what I understand by browsing the Runescape forums is that the Gravestones (an update done by Jagex Ltd allowing players to re-obtain thier items if they manage to run to where their gravestone was placed, which is where they died.)

However, the people who are complaining are not the little impatient kids too young to play the game in the frist place (age much be 13 or older) it’s the more older players who have been playing the game for a while, one older Runescape member stated that ” Over the recent years I’ve seen Runescape getting more and more easier. I can’t say truly say am a classic player since it was closed months after I started playing but with the introduction of more and more potions, weapons, armors, and minigames to help players get better seems to throw old players off.

How can it be fair to a level 100 whose played for 4-6 years, never did pest control, never used dragon weapons, barrows, GWD, compared to that of a 1-2 year old whose done all these things and is 3x better?

It seems Jagex has finally opened up their mind to impatient little kids who just want to keep on running faster, boosting skills, and making money and has left more mature players behind just for the benefit of getting people to play their game.”

At first I thought people were complaining that it was too easy to make money, but after reading this, it has become clear that players who have watched runescape change from classic to high detail are actually annoyed at the fact of the addition of new skills, new weapons/armour, mini-games and potions.

For me this seems a bit silly and at the same time just a bit overboard. The game needs to include new items/ mini-games in order to keep their players entertained, if they had never added such things, Runescape would have stopped years ago in my opinion. So why do they complain, well by the look of what a person had to say on sal’s runescape forum it has become apparent that the players who have played the game for 4-6 years (back when leveling up was the highlight of the game because their was just not enough higher leveled things to kill) that people who have only played the game 1-3 years are better than them, they feel they have wasted all their time on the game and that their contribution and all those years leveling up to find that a 12 year old kid who over uses phrases such as “n00b and pl0x” are owning them.

I honestly don’t believe you can blame Jagex, they just wanted to make the game more fun, and that is what they have done, period.

Some thing that made me laugh: Please click this link, it’s an angry runescape player who posted high thoughts on the official Runescape forum, let’s just say he thought capital text would get him cruise control, CLICK ME.

P.S: I would love to hear from newer players of the game as well as players of the older generation and your thoughts, so leave a message in the comments box, thanks.

Some good work. Mind you, I glanced over the last few paragraphs, but here are my thoughts:

I have played the game for 6 years now, and I agree that Jagex is making skill training WAY easier than it should be. However, at the same time, Runescape should be more about being a game, and a stress reliever — something you can have fun with. I believe that many people who are complaining aren’t fully understanding the concept of this game. Anyways, those are my basic thoughts. Great work on the article!

    Thanks ThunderBolt,

I was really hoping to see a experienced player’s point of view, you say the game should be a stress reliever-something you can have fun with, while I agree that you should have fun with the game, some people might disagree that this game should be a stress reliever, an MMO is supposed to take dedication and sometimes when things don’t go your way in the game, you GET stressed, just thought I would share my opinion their, thanks for the feed back.

They need to make skilling a good way to make money. Most of the great ways to make money (26k trick/gwd/the famous green dragons) are all combat related. The only comparable money method would probably be double-nats, but 91 (i think) rcing is absolute hell, and is much less interesting than, say, sara gwd.

    Hey,

Yeah I agree with that comment Noone just made, I beleive that the 26k trick contributes to runescape becoming too easy and that skills are just becoming less and less used now.

I have only been playing Runescape for one year, I started when I was twelve but please don’t think because I’m younger my opinion is, “wrong”. I think the game is great, people who are complaining just need to get used to the newer version. When I first started I thought the game was pretty hard, after a couple months of putting up with getting owned in the wilderness I finally got used to it. That is my opinion.

i played runescape on a friends account in 2005 and it was way harder to make money without the grand exchange. Now people can make about 1mill an hour with good money making methods. Then i quit playing that account and in late 2008 i started a new account. it was so easy to get to level 50 and now i am a lvl 76.i think that the worst thing about runescape is that lvl 120 plus can get like 10m a day off high level monsters and i can only get like 500k a day off tanning hides

Hi I play runescape and I think its great. I don’t really understand why people are complaining that minigames have ruined runescape. They just make the game way more fun for players! Although I still find leveling up to be hard because apparently to get a skill from 90-99 its like getting a skill from 1-90 which i just find silly but it gives a challenge to the game. Also I think a few of people will agree with me when i say wilderness shouldn\’t of been removed. I only think it should have on some worlds like they have made now on bounty worlds. But thats fighting anywhere. I prefered the old wilderness where you would have lots of groups fighting to the death but we have clan wars now which is much much better due to the fact you don\’t lose anything in there. These are just my opinions on runescape and some are not relevant to this page but these are just my thoughts. Good Article by the way! :) NateDawg

even though im kind of a newer player (playing for 3 years) i think that they did sort of make it easier but if they kept it the way it was then no one would play

I’ve played Runescape since Classic and I’ve seen a lot of things in my time. Runescape has changed significantly and mostly for the best. There are a few things I’m not happy with though. In the beginning it was all players just aiming to level up and get some nice shiny new gear. These days you can’t walk into Lumbridge without hear some young twat yelling ”pm me if u ned a gf” or ”pm if u wan haf sum fun”. People use Runescape like a dating site rather than a game and I just wish people would go back to using normal English. I encounter level seventies begging ”i got hacked, can i have some money?” when they’re wearing full rune g. We’re not dumb and we’re not blind.

Runescape has been slightly ruined though, not by Jagex but (as I have stated above) by the influx of people not treating others with respect. All the scammers really annoy me. And then there are the macroes. If you can’t be bothered going through the hard slog to get a skill to ninety-nine then don’t play. Getting a computer program to do it for you is just down right lazy and I can’t stand it.

No-one has any respect for anyone else anymore. I mean you used to be able train with someone, talk and then become friends and help each other out. Now it’s all hostile. I find the Hill Giants a brilliant example of this. When there were two Hill Giants and two players you could say ”I’ll take this one, you take that one. No kill-stealing” and they would generally agree. Now if you did that they’d call you a ‘’stoopd n0ob” and walk off.

The only things I think Jagex has done to make Runescape less fun is the removal of the Wilderness and the inclusion of the Grand Exchange. I think we all know why I miss the Wilderness because most people do, I remember the protests, the Varrock protest in particular was very impressive. But anyway, with the Grand Exchange they have taking away the oppertunities for Merchanting, not in the money making sense but in that you no longer see people hanging around Varrock’s banks yelling about what they’re selling. It also makes buying rare items far too easy. Instead of having to search far and wide for someone selling it you can simply put an offer in at the Grand Exchange, kick back and wait.

I will say it once more, it is the new players with no respect, rather than Jagex that have ruined Runescape.

I have been playing for about 5 years and i can barely remember the days when you would have fun making friends and finding somebody to help you with a quest. i myself still do this and help out anybody i can if im not making more money doing nothing than i used to trying.

I have been on and off alot (mostly on for a year off a year) so technically i’ve been playin for about 2.5 years and i love all of the new gear. if it wasnt for this and the mini-games (such as fist of guthix and castle wars) i probably wouldnt be playing.

Also i have to agree with Dichlorodiphenyltrichlorothane. he is exactly right about the “newer” players. I hate seeing people in lumbridge saying that stuff and i’m standing there selling old skool. Then they tell me to just sell on ge and im stuck to my old ways and they just dont understand.
That is all, great article btw

I have played runescape for 5 years now and i will agree with you what happened to where there was no mini games and to where there was no skillers or pures, Jagex has made the game worse for us, but not for the newer people.
