Jagex on Distribution of MechScape Content to Websites
The problems that have come up since Jagex has been sending content to MechScape World.
Jagex has opened its doors to fansites not too long ago. The first fansite that Jagex went to was MechScape World founder Ren. Ren as well as everyone who is a part of MechScape World was also shocked by this. As MechScape World continues to obtain more and more concept art and interviews from Jagex members, the competition between fansites become stronger both positively and negatively.
Recently (during the time of this article being published) a few communities have talked about the unfair balance of distribution of MechScape related content. Hopefully in this article I can explain the viewpoints of both sides correctly and accurately. I do not plan nor intent to be biased for either side.
The side that feels this is unfair is obviously the competitors of MechScape World. Now I understand this as how are you supposed to compete when Jagex is catering to them and giving them all of the content. The only way to compete is to keep on your tose for what they release and news, take it, and then post it on your website. Then you have to compete with the Twitters that Jagex has used to point to their released content that is on MechScape World.
On the other hand you have MechScape World who has worked very hard to hold the most and best quality of MechScape information. Ren started this and has gone so far in his efforts as to be the first to get contacted by Jagex. At first they obtained a small Q&A and concept art. Then the twitter not soon after. The website activity boosted.
Now up to this point I do not see this as unfair as it has just started but then you have the release of the next two concept artworks and another interview that was only provided to MechScape World. Now I would consider this a little unfair but I am not finished.
During the interview, the part that was not published, MechScape World has spoken to Jagex that they should take care into providing more equality of distribution of MechScape related content. Jagex responded that they were well aware of the issue and will address it. Some might feel that what Jagex says is empty and other might believe it. It’s up to you if you believe it or not but it is true.
I’ve also heard that Jagex has contacted other fansites concerning both MechScape and RuneScape. W13 has stated that Jagex has not sent back any reply for an interview or any content. I am not too sure about RuneHQ but I have heard word that they too have been contacted by Jagex. In the overall point of view Jagex is not only just talking to MechScape World.
Now back to the main issue that I was speaking about: unfair distribution of content. While I believe that at the moment it is unfair you must consider that would you have nothing at all or this unfairness? I personally would like to receive new information on a game that is very hard to get new information on. Jagex thus so far has been extremely tight as to what they say about MechScape.
Mod MMG for instance has pretty much told us 70% of what we know in the short time he has become head. He has given so much in a short time but has since stopped due to complaints on the RuneScape forums that the clan chat he was in was full. Well I for one would much rather not be able to access the clan chat and have more information released about noth MechScape and RuneScape.
You have to look at the benefits that come from what might be unbalanced and see the overal good that comes from it. Complaining is alright and I pat you on the back for standing up to your opinions but let me remind you that complaining about a certain change to happen does not mean that it will happen. For instance Jagex might close up its doors to everyone due to the amount of complaints.
I would advise that Jagex is watching and you need to watch what you do. Even if it isn’t on the official forums Jagex controls.
