Jagex: Working On A New Online Game?
A new game? Is it possible? Apparently, yes.
Rumours have been spreading like wildfire across the net, from the looks of it, Jagex has been working on a new game. When I first heard about it, the first word that came to mind was “bullsh-oot.” Yes, bullshoot. Let’s just leave it at that. So, I looked further into it. After all, such a huge mention had to come from somewhere.
The first place I went to, Google. I googled “MechScape” and came across tons of sites. I gathered a bunch of interesting sites and forum topics about it. So, before I go on to talk about it, all information that I state here originally come from the following sources:

So, now I’ll continue my article and show you the information I’ve gathered, along with some proof.
MechScape is meant to be a game that is set in the future, in a space-like environment. After all, Mech seems to be derived from Latin, mechanicus meaning “resourceful, inventive.” Or, if you want to be plain and simple, from mechanics. As for Scape, it’s just the same suffix as RuneScape.
Looking at the graphic artists’ pages, it’ll look a bit like this.
Furthermore, other sources have stated that it has been in the works for the past four-to-five years. Jagex does not want to post any announcements about it to keep a surprise effect. Unfortunately, information got leaked out to one person leading to a butterfly effect. But, it seems like a high possibility though. After all, they never announced that RuneScape 2 would be released until the Beta came out.
From the looks of it, graphically speaking, it’ll be way better than RuneScape. Many expect a huge decrease in the RuneScape population switching over to MechScape. Looking back at RuneScape Classic, it could be a possibility. Right after the release of RuneScape 2 many people had quit RuneScape Classic to switch on over to the improved version. MechScape will seem like an improved version of RuneScape, to many.
How will it work though? Will it retain the same MMORPG characteristics; skills, quests, etc…? I don’t know. I hope so though, as that’d definitely get me interested in this genre of games. But now, we must find out if any of this is true. Is Jagex working on a new game or is it all a hoax? Read on..
The Proof
The United Kingdom Government states that Jagex Limited, that is to say, the company that owns RuneScape, possess the following trademarks:
- RuneScape
- Jagex
- Rune Scape
- Funorb
- funOrb
- MechScape

Many RuneScape members now claim that they’ve received responses from Jagex stating that MechScape is indeed in the works. Of course, anyone can claim they’ve got a message from Jagex, but I guess we just have to give them the benefit of doubt.
Thomas Woode, a Jagex graphic artist, has stated on his site that he was originally employed to work on RuneScape but has “more recently moved to the role of Lead concepter for an exciting new MMORPG title currently in development.” He’s been posting various robotic sketches on his site.
John Seru, another Jagex graphic artist, has also been posting robotic models on his site. Seems a bit peculiar, doesn’t it? Sure, he says it’s because he saw Transformers but there’s nothing wrong with a bit of questioning…
Jagex Moderator, Mark H, has posted in a topic about MechScape in the RuneScape Official Forums yet did not comment on the game. Normally, a moderator’s reaction to false rumours would be closing the topic. He simply passed by it and did not state that it was all bogus.
Jagex’s official website states, “Our aim for 2007 is to continue to develop and improve RuneScape, while at the same time taking RuneScape into other non-English language markets following Germany. And to develop further games using our technologies.”

i was recently going to become a runescape member, but now that i have heard this article, i think i may wait-it-out for mechscape(if indeed it is true). I’ll have to look up this mechscape for more information. thanks for saving me $65 USD mate

Honestly I agree with syk23 due to the fact that since Jagex attempted to stop real world item trading the’ve just made it worse.
(not that it hasn’t stoped real world item tradres, which it has)
So if mechscape cums out then it means that jagex have made with the fact that real world item trading is a potential problem so they might not even release any currency in the first place which would mean that players would not aspire to be rich as opposed to “experienced” or high level.

yeah but when is this all sapposed to happen i mean, of corse a game develeper like jagex will want to create more and new exciting games to keep its followers involved but there has to be somewere and when this will come about… when did you first post this??

runescape is boring because of they got rid of the wildy! and can omly trade 3k worth of wealth its borng but the graphics are ok but i hope jagex make a new game!

This is not just a rumor, it’s true. Look, we’ve seen many evidences that it probably exists. And why would any Graphics Designer make robotic stuff for nothing? So it’s quite possible that they are making MechScape
Hope they can foster a more mature environment for this. Perhaps one way to combat this is by reporting people who call someone a ‘noob’ by any 1337 variation.
Then beat them with a dead squirrel over the head.
Seriously though, Runescape had many things going good for it but the audience was a major turn off for many more.

it sounds pretty interesting, but for the people who are at the top and still trying to max out their skills its gonna be all for nothing. and im pretty sure rs is gonna go down the tubes once this game comes out. so they are gonna be poed cuz all the people are gonna leave and then the game is not gonna hold.
Runescape sucks period i think everyone can agree with me. If not then you must not play very many cpu games. I hope this new games Jagex is making is better than runescape in so many ways.

ive only been playing runescape for a year.would be nice to be in at the start of something but im not sure this is what im looking for.the futuristic bit has no appeal to me really.but happy gaming to everyone that does play
