List of Dragons in RuneScape and How to Kill Them: Part 1

By using a guide to kill these dragons, you’ll find it easy to defeat this powerful monster.

Dragons have been known to be a feared creature both in Runescape and real world. However, an experienced player will find it really easy to beat these dragons if they’re using the right method. Fighting several types of these dragons might also not require you to heal at all. Therefore, those players tend to fight these dragons to train and also gain profit from them.

The note that you should remember when fighting any Dragons is to protect yourself from their Dragonfire. Otherwise you’ll be hit up to 60 damage. You would be completely protected from their breathes if you drink Antifire Potion and wield a Dragonfire Shield. During the effect of the Antifire potion (about 6 minutes), the dragon will always hit zero on you when they’re attacking with their breath. This is however, does not apply to Skeletal Wyvern. Take a look to its info for detailed information.

After a recent update, you could also make a Super Antifire potion and become immune to Dragonbreath without wielding the shield. However, you’ll need level 85 Herblore and Assist System will not work.

In this article, I will show you all kinds of Dragons in Runescape and the best way to kill them. The list is sorted from the lowest combat level to the highest one :

Green Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 79

Hitpoints : 75

Max hit : 8 with Melee

Habitats : Various Locations in Wilderness

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : By using Dragon weapons or above, you’ll find fighting this creature become fairly easy. Most common weapon to use here is Dragon Dagger (p++). Its special attacks and poison effects will help a lot when trying to defeat this Dragon.

Ranged : This is the most common method to kill Green Dragon as well as other Dragons. By standing on the safe spot using Rune Crossbow, Mithril Bolts and Ava’s Accumulator, you will barely need any food and you’ll only lose very small amount of money since Ava’s Accumulator will suck up most of your ammunition back.

Magic : This is uncommon method but could still be effective. It’s recommended that you have finished Family Crest quest and get a Chaos Gauntlet. This way, your fairly cheap Bolts Spell will have its max hits increased by 3 and using Blast or Wave spells would not become much different than Bolts. With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 30 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Green Dragon.

Notes : Green Dragon only reside in Wilderness area. That’s mean there’s always a risk of Revenant attacking you. However, wearing a high magic defence armor as well of protection from magic prayer will make Revenants will not be very hard to kill. Green Dragon is very often sought by player who want to make money while training their combat level.

Blue Dragon

Combat Level : 111

Hitpoints : 105

Max hit : 10 with Melee

Habitats : Taverley Dungeon, Ogre Enclave, and Heroes Guild

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : By using Dragon weapons or above, you’ll find fighting this creature become fairly easy. You could also use a Halberd to kill Blue Dragon in a Safe Spot. This is the best method for melee fighter.

Ranged : This is the most common method to kill Blue Dragon as well as other Dragons. By standing on the safe spot using Rune Crossbow, Mithril Bolts and Ava’s Accumulator, you will barely need any food and you’ll only lose very small amount of money since Ava’s Accumulator will suck up most of your ammunition back. Using Ruby Bolts (e) will make killing this dragon faster but it’s not recommended since you’ll use a lot of food to restore your hitpoints.

With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 40 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Blue Dragon.

Notes : Best place to kill Blue Dragon is at Ogre Enclave. You’ll need a partial completion of Watch Tower to enter this place. If you use this place, the closest bank is in Yanille. Taverley Dungeon is also good but it’s usually crowded. With level 70 Agility, you’ll be able to access the Dragon fast from this dungeon.

Bronze Dragon

Combat Level : 131

Hitpoints : 122

Max hit : 12 with Melee

Habitats : Brimhaven Dungeon and Chaos Tunnels

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Using Halberd in a Safe Spot is the best method to kill this dragon. Using one handed-weapon to fight this dragon will require you to use prayer or otherwise you will be hit very often unless you have 85+ defence.

Ranged : This is the most common method to kill Bronze Dragon as well as other Dragons.

With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 45 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Bronze Dragon.

Notes : This is the weakest Metal Dragon in the game. Unlike Chromatic Dragon (red, green, blue, black), metal dragons will fire their breath in ranged method so safe spot will be useless for those who use Ranged and Magic. Killing Bronze Dragon or other metal dragon can be a bit more expensive since you’ll need to buy and Drink Antifire potion frequently. The profit is also as not great as blue or green dragon since this dragon drop bronze bar instead of dragon hides.

Skeletal Wyvern

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 140

Hitpoints : 210

Max hit : 15 with Ranged and Melee, 10 with breath if wielding shield

Habitats : Asgarnian Ice Dungeon (the place to mine Blurite in the Knight’s Sword quest)

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Since Super Antifire potion will not protect you from its breath, 2 handed weapon is not possible to be used here. Best weapon would be Abyssal Whip. Melee is not recommended however, since the Wyvern will often switch the attack style and will required you to switch your protection prayer often. It will also use its breath often and no prayer will be able to protect you from it completely.

Ranged :  There’s a safe spot in the cave where it resides, but it can be tricky to use. You must use a Crossbow and you’ll need to fight in the cave for about 15 minutes. When it has become tolerant, you could go to southern part of the cave and lure it to come to you. After it’s lured, exit the cave and start ranging on it on the other side. Since Crossbow range is higher than the Ranged attack of the wyvern, it won’t attack you back at all and you can safely turn off your prayer.

Magic : Bolts spell will not work effectively on this creature since it has very high magic defence. Slayer Dart or better spell will be more effective but could still take up to 100 casts. By standing more than 6 squares away, the wyvern won’t use its breath attack and all you need is to protect yourself from its ranged attack.

Notes : Skeletal Wyvern is defined as a Dragon because it has a same body form as Dragon and it’s also dropped Draconic Visage. Unlike other Dragons, you’ll need to wield Elemental Shield, Mind Shield, or Dragonfire Shield to protect yourself from its breath. Regular Anti-Dragonfire shield will not work. Its breath is also different than Dragon since it will freeze you and will kill you in few hits if you don’t wear the shield. The shield will negate the frozen effect.

Contrary to the popular belief, Skeletal Wyvern is not an undead creature and Crumble Undead won’t work on it. It’s an animated pile of bones creature and probably made by a highly skilled Wizard who enchanted the bone to become a powerful Dragon. Its combat level also doesn’t tell its real power since it’s actually more powerful than a level 227 Steel Dragon and almost as powerful as Mithril Dragon.

Red Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 152

Hitpoints : 140

Max hit : 16 with Melee

Habitats : Brimhaven Dungeon and Red Dragon Isle

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Using Abyssal whip is the best method to kill this dragon with one-handed weapon. To make the killing faster, you should drink super strength potion as well as super attack. Using melee prayer will make this dragon totally harmless but barrow armor will also tamper the damage most of the time. If you have high herblore level, you could drink Super Antifire potion and use Zamorakian Spear instead. Using Halberd is also possible on the safe spot to make this dragon harmless to you.

Ranged : This is the most common method to kill Red Dragon as well as other Dragons.

With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 55 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Red Dragon.

Notes : Red Dragon is not commonly killed unless a player is on his slayer task to kill Red Dragon. Since the bank is very far, Red Dragon will not give a lot of profit to the player who slay these dragons. Best place to kill them is in Brimhaven Dungeon since it’s safer than Red Dragon Isle which is located in high level wilderness.

Closing

There are 6 more powerful Dragons in Runescape. But since it will be too long to define them all in one article, I decided to make two parts of this article.

The second part has been released, click here to visit it.

There are more than 150 millions user registered until now. However, only about 10 millions are active users. This is still great number and it’s still growing time after time.
