List of Dragons in RuneScape and How to Kill Them: Part Two

This is a sequel of the dragon guide that I’ve wrote. This will list six more powerful dragons in RuneScape.

If you haven’t read the previous series of this article, do so by visiting here. This article will continue the list and will add 6 more powerful dragons in Runescape. Killing them might be tough but by using the right strategy, you’ll find it much easier to kill them.

Note : I’m sorry that it takes almost a week to publish the sequel of this guide. This sequel of the guide was actually done on November 27. However,  this article was declined because it contains some same word with the previous series. I wanted to edit it to make it completely different than the previous article, but half part of the article was missing. I’ve submitted the problem to Triond here, but it takes too long for them to fix it. When it’s finally published today, half of the part still missing so I just decide that I’m going to fix and rewrite the missing piece myself.

Here are 6 more powerful dragons, sorted by the lowest combat level to highest one :

Iron Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 189

Hitpoints : 165

Max hit : 17 with Melee

Habitats : Brimhaven Dungeon

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Safe Spotting with Halberd is not possible in the place where it resides. Abyssal whip would be the most effective method when you don’t have high herblore level. If you’re low on defence, melee prayer is absolutely necessary but wearing Barrow armor will tamper most of the damage. If you have high herblore level, you could drink Super Antifire potion and use Zamorakian Spear instead.

Ranged : Ranged is the most effective way to kill Metal Dragon. By standing at least 2 square away from the dragon using Rune Crossbow, Mithril Bolts and Ava’s Accumulator, you will barely need any food and you’ll only lose very small amount of money since Ava’s Accumulator will suck up most of your ammunition back. Safe spotting is not possible here since the Dragon will still fire its dragonbreath in ranged method. Hence Antifire potion is very essential here.

Magic : This is uncommon method but could still be effective. It’s recommended that you have finished Family Crest quest and get a Chaos Gauntlet. This way, your fairly cheap Bolts Spell will have its max hits increased by 3 and using Blast or Wave spells would not become much different than Bolts. With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 55 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Iron Dragon. Metal Dragon is especially weak to Fire Spell, so fire bolts will be effective to it.

Notes : Iron Dragon is located in the same exact place as Steel Dragon. Sometimes when you’re closer to Steel Dragon than the Iron one, the Steel will attack you so make sure you’re stand away from the Steel Dragon. After 15 minutes, both Dragon will become tolerant and won’t attack you anymore. This will make it easy to pick on Iron Dragon. Iron Dragon is the weakest dragon that drop Draconic Visage. However, its drop rate is much rarer than any other Dragon that drop Draconic Visage.

Black Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 227

Hitpoints : 190

Max hit : 21 with Melee

Habitats : Taverley Dungeon, Lava Maze and Evil Chicken’s Lair

Fighting Strategies :

Melee :  Abyssal whip would be the most effective method when you don’t have high herblore level. If you’re low on defence, melee prayer is absolutely necessary but wearing Barrow armor will tamper most of the damage. If you have high herblore level, you could drink Super Antifire potion and use Zamorakian Spear instead. Safe Spotting with Halberd is possible and it will become the most effective way when using melee.

Ranged : This is the most common method to kill Black Dragon as well as other Dragons. By standing on the safe spot using Rune Crossbow, Mithril Bolts and Ava’s Accumulator, you will barely need any food and you’ll only lose very small amount of money since Ava’s Accumulator will suck up most of your ammunition back. Using a Poisoned Emerald bolts will also effective to this dragon since this dragon has a lot of hitpoints. During the poison process, you should switch to another bolts.

With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 65 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Black Dragon.

Notes : Black Dragon can be profitable if a player have at least 70 ranged or strength. By using halberd, player won’t need any food and will kill the Dragon pretty fast and with the poisoned bolt, the dragon will also be killed with pretty fast speed.

Brutal Green Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 227

Hitpoints : 175

Max hit : 23 with Melee, 15 with Magic

Habitats : Ancient Cavern (near Barbarian Outpost)

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Using Abyssal whip is the best method to kill this dragon with one-handed weapon. To make the killing faster, you should drink super strength potion as well as super attack. Using melee prayer will make this dragon totally harmless but barrow armor will also tamper the damage most of the time. If you have high herblore level, you could drink Super Antifire potion and use Zamorakian Spear instead. Using Halberd is also possible on the safe spot to make this dragon harmless to you.

Ranged : Since this dragon is a Chromatic Dragon, it will weak against Ranged attack. The most effective method is by using Ruby Bolts (e) as your ammunition. This way, you can hit up to 20% from his total hitpoints (about 48). However, this will decrease 10% of your own hitpoints. After it reaches half health, you should switch to Diamond Bolts because its special effect will decrease the Dragon’s ranged defence and will speed up your killing. When trying to range this dragon, Magic prayer is essential since it will attack mostly with its magic attack, not with its dragonbreath.

Magic : Claws of Guthix will be effective here since it will decrease the dragon’s magic defence. With Charge spell turned on, killing one Brutal Green Dragon will be slightly faster. Other spells won’t be as effective as this spell and they will mostly become failed since this Dragon has a very high resistance against magic attack.

Notes : Brutal Green Dragon is a much stronger version than the normal Green Dragon. Unlike most of the Dragons, this Dragon will also use Magic attack so Protection from Magic or high magic defence armor is necessary. This Dragon can be a great source of income if you bring a Beast of Burden with you since it will drop 2 Green Dragonhide all the time as well as other drops. Great drops that dropped frequently can be Rune 2h Sword or Rune Chainbody.

Steel Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 246

Hitpoints : 210

Max hit : 25 with Melee

Habitats : Brimhaven Dungeon

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Safe Spotting with Halberd is not possible in the place where it resides. Using Abyssal whip is the best method to kill this dragon with one-handed weapon. To make the killing faster, you should drink super strength potion as well as super attack. Using melee prayer will make this dragon totally harmless but barrow armor will also tamper the damage most of the time. If you have high herblore level, you could drink Super Antifire potion and use Zamorakian Spear instead.

Ranged : Ranged is the most common and cheapest way to kill any Dragon.

With Chaos Gauntlet and level 50+ magic, you’ll approximately need to cast 70 Fire Bolts spells to kill one Steel Dragon. Metal Dragon is especially weak to Fire Spell, so fire bolts will be effective to it.

Notes : Steel Dragon commonly hunted for those who want to get a Draconic Visage that worth about 26 Million.  It’s because they’re fairly easy to kill compare to KBD or Mithril Dragon and have a better chance of dropping it than Iron or Black Dragon. You will usually receive it after about 300-500 kills.

It can be annoying if Iron Dragon attacking you when you’re actually wanted to kill a Steel Dragon. This won’t become a problem if those dragons has become tolerant to you. The most common drop of this dragon is Runite Limbs which worth about 9,000 coins.

King Black Dragon

Image via Runescape Wikia

Combat Level : 276

Hitpoints : 240

Max hit : 25 with Melee, 10 with its unique breaths.

Habitats : King Black Dragon’s Lair (near Lava Maze)

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Melee is recommended if you’re going to kill this Dragon alone. By using a Prayer, KBD will rarely hit above zero when it’s attacking with Melee. However, its unique breath will still hit you no matter what. Using Abbysal Whip would be the best method if you don’t have high herblore level to make Super Antifire potion. Safe Spotting using Halberd would be impossible since the Dragon itself will fire its breath in ranged method.

Ranged : Unlike with other Dragons, killing KBD with Ranged can be more difficult than killing it with Melee. It’s because the Dragon will always attack with its unique breathes with fast speed and you cannot avoid the damage with anything, including Protect From Magic prayer. Using Ruby Bolts (e) would be effective only if you bring a team with you. That way, the Dragon will not only attack you but also others so you won’t be damaged too fast. Otherwise, you should use Diamond Bolts (e) since it will decrease the KBD Ranged defense.

Magic : Using Ice Burst/Blitz/Barrage is an effective way to kill King Black Dragon. The method would include freeze the dragon, keep attacking until 2 seconds before the freeze effect has over. Move a little bit so the KBD will have to move to attack you again. That should make the KBD no longer immune to the Freeze effect (immunity last only 4 seconds). Attack him and repeat the process again. The running will not be necessary if you bring group with you and since the spell can be failed occasionally, you will still take damage from its unique breaths or probably melee if you’re too close.

Notes : King Black Dragon should only be killed for challenge because its drops are almost the same as Steel Dragon. It can be really fun when you’re killing this Dragon in team. KBD has 3 different unique breaths with different effect.

The first breath is an Ice Breath which will stop player from moving and attacking for about 5 seconds. The second breath is a Shockwave breath that will reduce the stats of the player. The third breath will poison the player for 8 damage overtime so it’s a good idea to bring Antipoison while fighting KBD. KBD will occasionally use the normal Dragon breath and if it’s using it too often, player will find it easier to kill this Boss monster.

Mithril Dragon

Combat Level : 304

Hitpoints : 254

Max hit : 28 with Melee, 18 with Magic and Ranged

Habitats : Ancient Cavern

Fighting Strategies :

Melee : Safe Spotting with Halberd is not possible since Mithril Dragon will still fire its breath in Ranged. Abyssal Whip is the most effective weapon if you don’t have high herblore level. Melee Prayer must be turned no matter how great your defence because it will still hit high. If you have high herblore level, you can drink a Super Antifire potion and use a powerful 2 handed weapon such as Godsword.

Ranged : Ranged is the recommended method when fighting Mithril Dragon. It’s because you can avoid the high damage of its melee attack and will be able to kill it faster with Ruby Bolts (e). When Mithril Dragon has reached 50% of its health, you should switch to Diamond Bolts to decrease its ranged defence and it will hit higher than Ruby Bolts (e) when the Dragon is in this state.

Magic : Claw of Guthix is the only effective spell against this Dragon. It’s because it will remove the portion of its magic defence and hence increase the possibility to reach max hits to the Dragon. With Charge spell at level 80, your max hits to this dragon will become 30. Ice Barrage or similar freezing spell won’t be effective since they will fail a lot of time.

Notes : When using Ranged or Magic to attack this dragon, it will also use its Magic and Ranged attack against you. Hence protection prayer or high armour defence against these attacks will be necessary. Bringing a Healing familiar will be extremely useful and you’ll be able to kill up to 15 Mithril Dragons in one trip. You could also use Smoke spell to poison it and it will give significant impact on the killing speeds.

Mithril Dragons is the only creature in the game that will drop Dragon Full Helmet which cost about 15 million coins. However, it’s a rare drop and player will usually get it after 100-200 kills. Mithril Dragon is also have the highest potential to drop Draconic Visage that cost about 26 million coins. You will usually received it after 200-300 kills. Common drops that worth kept are Rune 2h Sword, 27 Blood Runes, and Rune Full Helmet.

Profit

All dragons except Bronze, Red and King Black Dragon can be extremely profitable if you’re high levelled enough in Ranged or Magic.

For player who are not that high levelled, Green Dragon is a very profitable but still easy. With 50+ Ranged, it will be enough to get a lot of profit from them. Each hides will worth about 1,500 coins and the bones will worth about 3,700 coins. Within an hour you could get up to 500K if you only keep the hides, the bones, and some precious items such as Rune Full Helmet or Kiteshield. If you have 70+ Ranged and 70+ Defence, you could also kill the Brutal Green Dragon and you’ll profit for about 700K per hour.

Black Dragon is also great for profit if you have 70+ Ranged or 60+ Magic. If using Ranged, you could get up to 600K per hour by collecting Black Dragonhide (3,500 coins), Dragon Bones (3,700 coins), and precious items such as Rune Longsword (21,000 coins) or Rune Battleaxe (21,000 Coins). Using Magic will only give you about 400-500K per hour. Although it’s extremely rare, you could also get a 26 Million Draconic Visage if you’re really lucky.

Steel Dragons can yield about 300-400K per hour which is lower than Green Dragon. It can only be achieved if you’re using Ranged and have 70+ Ranged. Common drops that you should keep are Runite Limbs (9,000 coins), Rune 2h Sword (50,000 coins), Runite Bar (13,000 coins),Dragon Bones (3,700 coins), and Rune Battleaxe (21,000 coins). If you’re lucky however, you could get Dragon Platelegs (700,000 coins) or Skirt (150,000 Coins). Ultimately, you could get Draconic Visage (26M coins) within 300-500 kills. Killing Iron Dragons is not recommended as it will only profit you arouind 200K per hour and it’s unlikely that it will drop something good.

Mithril Dragon is the ultimate source of income but should only be fought if you have 80+ Ranged and 80+ defence. Normally you can profit for about 800K per hour provided that you’re high levelled enough to kill it fast. It can be reached by keeping Rune items and Blood Runes that dropped very commonly. The great thing about this Dragon is that it has a chance of dropping two ultimate items, Dragon Full Helmet (15,000,000 coins) or Draconic Visage (26,000,000 coins). You will usually receive them after 200-400 kills.

Final Word

The profit of killing Dragons are just estimate and the real profit will depends on your luck. Beside gaining profit, killing Dragon can be really fun especially if you’re fighting King Black Dragon in team. Killing Dragons is also sounds great to the most people compared to other monster such as Demons.

Thank you for reading this guide! I hope it will be useful for you!

Aww, Triond somehow removed some part of the article… this is very annoying!! I’m going to fix this by myself!!

@mxpower : Those info is actually covered, but it’s missing right now thanks to Triond.

@kingryanv : Some dragons have same exact fighting strategy because they act the same so making their strategies different with each other will not do any good. Take a look at King Black Dragon and some other dragons, they have different strategy, it’s missing right now though.

Thank you for all your comments!!
