Making the Perfect Mage Pure
This guide contains information on how to train your account so that he/she will have the most effective stats in the wildy for mages.
Mage is one of the most feared skills. Mage completely dominates the wilderness from combats 3 through 30. I myself have several mage hybrids, ranging from combats 27-84. Mages should train their mage levels in the following ways:
1-25 mage: For mages, you can always go wildy pking. In fact, it can be fun if you have team. Just bring mind runes, an appropriate staff, and any other runes. Bank when you can cast a new spell. For those that just want to get to higher mage levels quickly, I recommend going to varrock sewers with weakens and curses. Keep weakening rats until you have many are all trying to attack you at once . The level 1 rats won’t do any damage. Make sure your auto retaliate is off. However, make sure you occasionally go and gain hits xp somehow.
10 hits lvls and 25 mage means you could get 1 hit if you walked into wildy. When you are able to cast curse, do so (it doesn’t matter if your weakens and curses fail, you still get xp). Ignore people when they walk up to you and make fun of you because you are “too weak to kill rats”. At any point, you may want to consider doing the “imp catcher” or “witch’s potion” quests. If it will take time to accumulate body runes for curses, do the quests. If you already have the sufficient runes, the quests will exhaust your time.
26-35: Train at the varrock sewers across the river. There are skeletons that are unable to attack you there. You could also train at the barbarian village. There are tables that you can mage across.
26+: PK.
50+: Train at lesser demons. The problem is that this training spot is so heavily favored by both rangers and meleers that it can become crowded. There is a spot between some stalagmites and a corpse (there are three barriers forming a triangle) where lessers can VERY rarely touch you. Therefore, it is not required to bring too much food.
Note that since runes can be expensive, it would be smartest not to use your strongest spell when training; most of the time, I would use fire strike**
PRAYER:
Prayer usually doesn’t appear to make a drastic difference for mages. However, mage prayer can always be useful if you hybrid with range (if you get 45 prayer, you can use the range pray, mage pray, all three protection prayers, and much more). In fact, a mage should never consider getting 43 pray because 45 prayer is more useful at little cost.

in the hybrid section, the 65 range should really be 73
actually, there’s a bunch of things wrong in the hybrid section (so much for ctrl+v, ctrl+c). In the first example, the strength level should be 50, making the sum 90, making the target number 180. Also, while the 65 range in the second example should be 73, the 73 mage should also be 65.
i liked it but the part that was stupid (all of it no offence) i hated but some good advise (none) made it good…

mage training is ok at rock crabs, not killing them but usin telekenetic grab on the nats there 1 air + 1 law = 2 nats, u make a small profit and u get mage xp. the xp isnt to gr8 but its still about 200k profit for every 1k laws u buy
good guide but you made ALOT of MISTAKES with it…
and for good mage exp go up past clan wars and go past the hobgoblins then behind the clan wars area and u should see a lesser demon
take about 1k tele grabs and about 5k fire strikes
tele grab the nats on the island 2 airs and 2 laws = 7 nats!
then when they go kill the lesser demon
when hes dead the nats should be back
this is probably the best mage exp besides alching

tbh i jst prefere buying laws and air staff and fires and teleing in same spot, it cost alot but its kinda fast

hey, i had a pure mage which rules his lvls i nthe wild. When the wild left i decided to make a tanker mage for bounty hunter. you advice isnt really that good for f2p because you dont hit high with mage depending on your mage lvl. Each spell has a max hit, so having 90 mage does nothing for a f2p because they can only use a lvl 59 spell.
I am now 60 mage and 40 defence,Once you get to this lvl there is no point in raising mage because it will give you useless combat points; so you can still raise defence. From here on you will be successful at BH and arena.

not a good guide, you should use offensive spells as soon as you can since it will level your hp, curse doesn’t level up hp and therefore you will only be getting mage up and people can 1 hit you.
Agreed with mageorita. It’s probably more efficient training with Curse/Weaken/Alchemy but having high HP is very important, especially for Mage Pures.
the best way to train is combat spells at fist of guthix. free runes good training and u can make cash as well by buying rune zerks with the tokens and sell for 70k cash i am lvl 98 mage from this method and have 17m from selling rune zerkers. i know thats a lot but i merch them as well. now the wildy is for noobs pvp worlds are the new in my mage str att pure just 0wns them with wind bolt then addi scim hitting 8’s at 34 cb…………………………………………… i will 0wn u pinkman style ftw ftw ftw ftw ova da top random speak w00t w00t w00t ftw ftw ftw
the point in not gaininh hp is u stay lower cb with higher mage lvl…..and u can always train mage with offensive spells later when you need hp more, but lower lvls need high mage more. and “my rack is huge” is right f.o.g is the cheapest way to train mage and make cash if you are good enough.

I have an account with the following: 1 attack / 1 strength / 10 defense / 1 prayer / 1 range / and 55 Mage. Combat 38.
First question: is this any good?
Second: how can I improve this account? Is it possible to raise another stat, but keeping my combat under 40?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Right, I have a successful mage pure. At 1-20 buy a staff of air and go to the lesser demon at wizards tower. You should see that at level one you can use a spell while using only air runes (the staff has unlimited air runes). 25+ I recoment going to fist of guthix (free runes), and cast the best spell possable. You can sell the rewards for extra money
