Mechscape: The New MMORPG by Jagex Ltd

Mechscape is Jagex’s new Sci-fi MMORPG game. It has been scheduled to be released in Summer 2009 which will be a good capture of a lot of kids as they have just broken up for summer break. But there have already been a number of other release dates such as March 2009, but these dates have been and gone and Jagex have said that they are waiting till they think the game has reached its maturity. But will it be run along side runescape or be the replacement?

When was Mechscape first announced?

Mechscape was officially first announced to the public on July 15, 2008 but it has been said that it was planned in late 2003 (December) and had entered its first stage of development in 2006. Mechscape hasn’t even been confirmed as the name for the game yet as jagex is using it as a code name in interviews, so the name of the game could be anything including Mechscape.

How will I play Mechscape?

Mechscape, like Runescape, will be played over the net and be browser-based and be presented in a java-script with no downloads required. The technology used in Mechscape will be a few steps in front of Runescape and will be aimed at a older age group with more maturity. So runescape was set in the medieval ages were as Mechscape is going to be more sci-fi. Jagex has released information saying that mechscape will be nothing like any other MMORPG and that it will not be skilled based like runescape but will have a unique control mechanism which apparently “combines the best of both worlds”.

What will I play as when play Mechscape? What choices are there?

Up to now there have only been 4 different races in Mechscape announced, but up to now we only know two of these 4 different races; these are Humans and a new race called Pligii. In recent concept art pictures, humans look like they are heavily aided by machines and although none of the concept art pictures have been named the Pligii species look like they are a organic specie, with reference to vortigaunt creature from half-life 2. It is suspected that the 3rd specie could be a rock type life-form but this is only a rumor and nothing has been comfirmed. 

How big will Mechscape be?

Mechscape is meant to be as big as the current runescape region. Also for any of you people who tried making money through real-life trading in runescape don’t try it in Mechscape as Jagex has said that there will be no real life trading happening in Mechscape.

So to some up the facts we know;

1) It is meant to be scheduled to be released in Summer 2009.

2) It will be MMORPG based in the future ahead of the current age in runescape, a Sci-fi.

3) It shall be a totally separate game to Runescape, meaning runescape shall still run along side to Mechscape.

4) Mechscape will be played in the web browser and will not require and download except you will need to have Jagex installed to run the game, which may include a download.

5) It shall be aimed at a older more mature audience.

Also there is going to be a unlimited free trial like Runescape and any password used in Runescape or FunOrb should also work for Mechscape. The membership will probably cost around $7-12 monthly.
