Have you ever thought how many people play Runescape? Runescape has been running for over 10 years now, and has become the world’s biggest online java-based game. The official Jagex record for 11/08/08 was over 135 million accounts created since Runescape was launched, and this is hardly an accurate number. Any child you ask will say that they either have played or still do play Runescape, and there are many adults who play as well. When Runescape membership was launched in 2002, 5000 people signed up for membership in the first week alone. The possibilities of what a player can do on Runescape (having bought into membership) are very nearly infinite, and Jagex releases more updates and mini-games every month.

It is also interesting how many sites there are on the internet that offer cheats for Runescape, or ways to hack it and make yourself a member. Allow me to clarify; there is NO way to hack Runescape. It is a completely online based game, with all processes running of secure servers. A popular method among hackers is telling people that there is a piece of code that they can send of to the Jagex server, which will then send them back other peoples account names and passwords. These methods are complete rubbish, the e-mails generally provided by the hackers are to hot-mail accounts (as if Jagex workers would have a hotmail account) and all they give is a little piece of “code” – which is really just a useless string of letters, symbol’s and numbers, which include spaces for you to type your username and password – this is so obviously a hack, these people are just trying to steal other peoples money and items, because they can’t be bothered to put in the time or perseverance to train up on Runescape properly.

Since Runescape has launched its new high detail graphics mode, its number of players has increased dramatically, as people realise that the game is a lot better now, with the improved graphics technology, and better gaming system.

Runescape has also sped-up dramatically since Runescape 3 was introduced, as the number of servers it runs off has increased by a colossal amount. Runescape one was running off two servers ^_^, Runescape 2 off 50, but Runescape 3 runs off a giant 1000 servers. This has decreased lag to the stage that even people with really slow computers can play Runescape without lag.

Runescape’s security system has also increased. If you are being abused on Runescape, at the bottom of the screen there is a report abuse button through which in two easy steps, you can report someone who is breaking the rules.

Another recent addition to Runescape is fun-orb. This is an online gaming room where Runescape users can play mini-games with each other, in a slightly more relaxed environment then on the actual game.
