RuneScape

A great online game.

Hello Everybody!  IN this article, I will talk about the online game known as runescape.

First of all, you can play it for free or pay to play.  Of course, if you pay, you’ll get benefits, but even so, the game is great as a free player.

In runescape, there are many things you can do.  There is also a tutorial at the beginning to help people who are just beginning to play.  You can train your stats and level up many skills, but some are only for members.  You may call this a guide for beginners, or whatever you wish.

First, to tell what each stat does the more you level them.

Attack – Attack raises the chance to strike a successful hit while using a melee weapon, a missed hit is shown as a 0 in blue outline // Allows you to use stronger melee weapons

Strength – Strength raises the possible damage you can do while using a melee weapon, a successful hit is shown in red outline

Defense – Defense lowers the person/creature’s chance of doing high damages, and makes them hit less often // Allows you to use better armor

Range – Range raises your damage and chance of hitting while using a bow/crossbow and arrows/bolts // Allows you to use better bows, while bows allow you to use better weapons

Magic – Raises your chance of hitting and helps you do higher damages while casting spells // Lets you use more and better spells as it levels // Magic spells can only be casted by using a variety of runes

Prayer - Allows you to use various ways of praying to boost your stats for a limited amount of time (until you run out of prayer points) // Your total amount of prayer points is equal to your prayer level

Hitpoints - If you run out of this, you will die // The total hitpoints you have is equal to the level of your hitpoints

Mining – Allows you to mine ores from rocks

Smithing – Allows you to smelt ores from mining into bars, which can then be used to create armor and weapon

Crafting- Allows you to create jewellry, create ranging armor, and many more things // Some jewellry can be enhanced with a certain level of magic/prayer

Woodcutting – Woodcutting allows you to cut a various amount of trees in order to get logs

Firemaking – Lets you make a fire out of logs that you can get from woodcutting // Food can be cooked only on a fire or a stove

Fishing – Lets you fish various amounts of fish from water

Cooking – Allows you to cook many things, including fish from fishing, meat from combat, and much more

Runecrafting – Allows you craft runes which can be used for magic

And that’s all the skills for free players.  As you can see, there is much you can do on runescape.  You might have also noticed that many skills depend on eachother in order to be trained.  You usually mine before you smith, woodcut before you firemake, etc.  So many skills can be trained at the same time if you wanted to.

Now, let’s go explore some of the armor and weapons.

There are many types of weapons, but this is the basics.

First, the melee weapons.

Bronze weapons and iron weapons need level 1 attack to be wielded, and iron weapons are stronger than bronze weapons.

Then, Steel weapons need level 5 attack to be wielded, and are stronger than bronze and iron weapons.

Next comes Black weapons which can be wielded at level 10 attack.  They are stronger than Steel weapons.

After that, Mithril weapons can be wielded at level 20.  They are stronger than Black weapons.

Second to last is Adamant weapons, which are for level 30 attack.  They are stronger than Mithril weapons.

Finally comes Rune weapons, which are for level 40 attackThey are the strongest melee weapons for free players.

Then, the range weapons.

Shortbow and Longbow need level 1 Range, and  Longbows are stronger and slower than the shortbow. They can only use bronze and iron arrows, with iron arrows being the stronger.

Then at level 5, Oak Sortbows and Longbowscan be used, again Longbows being stronger and slower than the shortbow.  They can use up to steel arrows.

At level 20, Willow Shortbows and Longbows can be used, and you already know about Longbows being stronger and slower.  These bows can use up to mithril arrows.

At level 30 comes the strongest bows for free players, the Maple Shortbow and Longbow, which can use up to adamant arrows.

I’m sorry to say that information for crossbows won’t be shown, as I have minimum experience using crossbows, but the good news is that as crossbows shoot slower than bows, and aren’t much stronger, they are rarely used.

Finally, the Mage Weapons

There are four elemental staffs.  They can all be used with only level 1 magic.  While wearing any of these staffs, you are practically granted an unlimited supply of a certain rune until you take the weapon off.  The four staffs are Air, Earth, Fire, and Water.  Air staffs replace Air runes, Earth staffs replace Earth runes, etc.

There are many types of runes. Here is the list and what they are mostly used for.

Mind rune – The most basic rune, mind rune is used for low-level combat spells

Chaos rune – These runes are used for medium-level combat spells

Death rune – These runes are used for high-level combat spells

Air rune- Used for a variety of things, including combat spells, teleports, etc

Earth rune – Same as Air rune

Water rune – Same as Air rune

Fire rune – Same as Air rune

Cosmic rune- Mostly used for enchanting spells that enchant jewellry from crafting

Law rune- Mostly used for teleporting spells

Nature rune – Mostly used for nature spells, such as transforming peaches into bananas, etc

Body rune – Mostly used for cursing spells, such as Weaken which decreases the opponent’s attack by 5%

From my memory, those are all the runes for free players.

Now, onto the armor. First, melee armor.

Melee armor is the same as melee weapons, bronze and iron can be used at level 1, steel at level 5, black at level 10, mithril at level 20, adamant at 30, and rune at 40.  Instead of attack levels, you need defense levels to wear the armor.

For Range armor, you can wear leather armor at level 1, hard leather body at level 5, and studded leather items are level 20.  Then, at level 40, you can wear dragonhide armor, which is the best range armor for free players.

For mages, there’s not much you can wear.  You can wear the wizard robes/black robes  and an anti-dragon shield at level 1 and that’s pretty much it.

Now, Combat level is the level everybody else sees you at.  To level combat, you can level any of the following : Attack , Strength, Defense, Prayer, Hitpoints, Range, or Magic.  Those are combat-leveling skills for free players.

How do you level these skills you say?  Well, for attack, you use a melee weapon and chose the first option of how to attack.  For strength, you choose the options between the first and last.  For defense, you choose the last.  For Range, you just use a bow, and for Magic you cast spells.  For prayer, you Bury bonesof fallen creatures.  Take note that you gain experience for strength, attack, defense, range, and magic for every hit you do.  Every time you do 1 damage, you gain 4 experience, every time you do 2, you gain 8, etc.  To level hitpoints, you gain experience every time you deal damage and every time you take damage.

To train your Crafting, you do any of the options for crafting, such as spinning wool, creating jewellry, cutting jewellry, etc.  To train woodcutting, you cut trees, and to train firemaking, you make fires.  To train fishing, you fish for fish, and to cook, you cook anything you can, including fish and meat.  To runecraft, you just craft as many runes you can.  For mining, you mine ores as much as you can, and for smithing, you smelt as many ores and create as many items as possible.

I’m also sorry to say that I am unable to put any help for people who play as a paying member.  As I have no experience being a member, this information will not be put here.

Please tell me anything I should add, and I’ll probably do that.  Thanks!  I plan to add much more, but this is it for now.
