RuneScape – A History of Cheating, Macros and Scripts

All of you Runescape players out there have heard of the free level 99 everything account scams, the “character editors” “Item duplicators” and coin generators, but, they obviously don’t work. Back in the good ol’ days, cheating in Runescape used to work, and this is an account of its history.

I used to play Runescape, back in the day. Back before market restrictions, when the wildy WAS the wildy, when everything was regulated and the world actually felt somewhat like the wild west. Soon enough I got bored, and I turned to other ways of advancing my character, less reputible ways.

I stumbled across a website called “fagex” and another called “scythe” (which is still around, has been for years,) and they claimed to have cheats for runescape. Oh, not those ridiculous character editors or anything, programs called macros.

A macro is a program that actually takes over your mouse and keyboard. When set up right, a macro can take control of your character, and by finding certain colors on the screen can click and have your characters do things

I stumbled upon a huge community dedicated to writing these scripts and trading/selling them to other players in order to amass massive amounts of wealth. A popular script was a flax picker, it would control
