RuneScape and Private Servers

RuneScape private servers and a little history.

Runescape made by Jagex ltd. is a on-line mmorpg that has many so called private servers. These private servers a.k.a RSPS (RuneScape Private Server) are found all over the internet these days. They are getting better as time progresses.

They stared out as merely a way to get free party hats (A highly priced in game item) and change there stats to whatever they saw fit. Now they are mostly used for PvP, (Player vs. Player combat) being in the original game the wilderness was taken out. (A place were the PvP took place) It was taken out because of companies using it to make money of real world trading. (Selling Runescape money or items for real cash) This upset many players turning them RSPS because of the lose of there main in-game income. Also another big factor is most are free to play 100% meaning there is not F2P (Free to play) or P2P (Play to play/members) just normal users.

Most RSPS have under a 10 hour up time, mean that it crashes rather often having to rejoin after 1 minute or so. They also have small amounts of dedicated players being from 50-500 usually but no where near the 100,000+ Runescape has daily.

Your basic RSPS is a 317, 377, 474, 503, 508+ client and server. These Numbers represent how old the server is. The bigger the number the newer it is. The newest i believe to be 534 or 535. (Runescape’s current format) These RSPS are in to parts The Server and the Client. The Server is where a lot of the skills and in-game stuff is programmed. The Client is what runs the server and is where you add the base for everything to be programmed in the Server.

317 or 377 was/is believed to be the best because of there easy to understand layout and there ability to customize. They are set near the middle of the wilderness era. People have figure out of to add models from the more current Runescape and previously to that. These models can be anything from graphics to items even to npcs. (Non player characters) They are slowly still learn more about it. the biggest problem currently is lack of new maps perfected from current Runescape and that you can not add animations to the npcs you add or the skill cape emotes (big issue for some).

Later the RSPS communities started working on 474 servers, hared to program and a big transition. They were picked up because of the updated look to most interfaces and maps, also the animations were there. Not as wilderness used but you see them now and again.

Lastly there is the 503, 508+ Servers and clients these are loved by some and hated by others. They are in the most current format (Runescape HD) and have most of the current Runescape capibilities. Some people preffer the older format because they dislike the newer graphical update of Runescape HD and don’t mind the older style of the game.

Overall there is many of thousands of servers out there and as far as i am concerned none will ever be a “perfect” Runescape.

Nice! Still missing 525’s :D Also, runescape itself is currently in a 527 format.

534, 535’s+ servers are just rumors, and do not actually exist :P
