Runescape Anti Scamming Guide
Have you ever been scammed on Runescape before? This guide will show you the most common types of scams, and how to avoid them.
It’s a great game, but many people on it try to scam you out of your valuable items or money. This guide will tell you what the common scams are and how to avoid them.
Gem Cutting + Armour Trimming
Gem Cutting is one of the most common things you will see people saying in RuneScape; “Cutting Gems 4 free!”. However, some of these people are just trying to steal your gems. If you want to be sure, you could give them your uncut gems one at a time; that way, you can tell if they can be trusted and you will not lose too much if they are trying to scam you. Armour Trimming scams are similar to Gem Cutting scams. However, there is no way that armor can be trimmed by players in RuneScape; anyone who says they can trim armor is definitely scamming you. Report them, or just simply don’t give them your armor.
Luring
“Hey, I’ll buy your (whatever) now. I’m in (wherever), come and trade here!” Trading is a really common, useful part of RuneScape. However, some people have invented a scam with it. There are many places which are dangerous to go to if you are unprepared. The most common places are the Wilderness, in a dungeon like Varrock sewers or Lumbridge caves (members only). To avoid this scam, make sure that you only trade in safe places and not anywhere where you could accidentally walk into the Wilderness or a place with dangerous monsters.
Stackable Items
This is most commonly done with money in trades. If you are trading an expensive item, the scammer may sometimes change the “100K” gold to “100″ gold. In a quick trade, it is very easy to miss the change, making you sell an item for much less than it is really worth. It is also done with other stackable items or noted items. The simpliest way to avoid this scam is to check the second trade screen carefully to make sure that you are definitely getting what you want.
I Can Make You A Free Member…
On many scamming sites, there may be someone saying “…if you send an email to whatever@hotmail.com, with your username and password, and the username of the person you want to hack, then you will be emailed back with that user names password because it’s Jagex’s email/Jagex’s bots email/whatever…” If Jagex does have an email, it would be something@jagex.com, not a free email at Hotmail! These people who post these messages are just trying to get your password and scam you! Never give your password to anyone on any website, apart from
Runescape.com
These are the most common types of scams. The best way to avoid scams are to never give your password out on any website other than Runescape.com, and to always use your common sense when playing RuneScape; not all the players are kind and helpful!
