RuneScape F2P Guide to 99 Mining

Mining can be a very profiable skill, but only if you have a high level in it. It is connected to smithing. To start, buy an iron pickaxe, a steel pickaxe, a mithril pick axe, an adamant pickaxe, and a rune pickaxe on the Grand Exchange if you can afford them, if you can’t, you buy an iron pickaxe, mine some ores, and sell them for money to buy other pickaxes. To wield pickaxes, you need the corresponding attack level too, so consider training attack as well.

Level 1-6

First, you should mine only the copper ores south of Lumbridge with an iron pickaxe. Always wield your pickaxe if you can. Bank the ores in the Lumbridge castle bank. Repeat the process until level 6 mining.

Level 6-21

Now, you should switch to steel pickaxe. Continue mining copper ores till level 21 mining.

Level 21-31

Now switch to mithril pickaxe and iron ores. Iron ores can be found in mines southeast and southwest of Varrock and north of Al-Kharid. The southwest bank maybe preferable, as there are less people and more rocks there, but it is also farther away from a bank. Al-Kharid mine is fairly close to a bank and has many ores, but the downside is that level 14 scorpions roam here, attack anyone with a combat level of 28 or less. Therefore, it is recommended to mine at the Kharid mine only if you have a combat level of 29 and over.

Level 31-41

Switch to adamant pickaxe, but continue mining iron ores. You can also mine the silver when the respawn in the Varrock south mine or the Kharid mine. Bank when needed.

Path 1: Fast but not much profit

Level 41-99

Mine coals. You can bring a fire staff and nature runes to superheat the coals into bars to save time and trips of banking. However, this requires a somewhat high smithing and magic level. At level 60 and above, go into the mining guild under Falador to mine coals. You can take a break sometimes and mine other ores, namely runite when you have a high enough level.

Path 2: Slow but lots of profit

Mine the best ore you can. Switch to gold at level 41, mithril at 55, adamantite at 70, and runite at level 85.
