Runescape Fishing Guide
Fishing is a very important and profitable skill in RuneScape. This is because people need food and the best and most sort after source of food is Fish. Fishing can be done at any level whether it be lvl 3 or lvl 130.
When you start the game your Fishing level is 1,
At level one you can use a crayfish cage or a small net to catch either crayfish or shrimp, respectively,
Shrimp heals 3 and crayfish 1, sell them to the general store because they’re not worth much or wanted on G.E.
When you get to level 5 you should get yourself a fishing rod and some fishing bait. At level 5 you can start fishing sardines which heal slightly more at 4 and grant 20 exp. At level 10 still using your fishing rod you can fish herring which heals 5 and grants 30 exp.
When you reach level 15 switch back to your small fishing net and start fishing anchovies, they give 40exp and heal 1, but don’t throw them away as high level chefs use them to make anchovy pizzas, they can sell for about 120 each! (Note that whilst fishing for anchovies you will also get shrimp)
At level 20 you can get yourself a fly fishing rod and some feathers (you can either buy feathers from G.E or the Port Sarim store or you can kill chickens) and either go to Barbarian Village or Lumbridge. This is when you can start fishing trout. Trout heals 7 and gives 50 exp.
At level 25 you might want to switch back to fishing rod and bait and fish in either Barbarian Village or Lumbridge for Pike. Pike heals 8 and gives 60 exp.
At level 30 you can switch back to fly fishing in Barbarian Village or Lumbridge as you can now fish Salmon. Salmon heals 9 and gives 70 exp. Just remember that when you’re fishing for Salmon you will also get some Trout. The ratio of salmon to trout will increase with your level.
When you reach level 35 you can start harpooning Tuna in Karamja. The only way to get to Karamja is through Port Sarim, you have to pay 30 coins to go to and from. Tuna sells for 100, heals 10 and grants 80 exp, but It’s not recommended to fish tuna as it is slow exp. Most people still prefer to fly fish salmon and trout or fish pike than fish tuna.
Now you’re level 40 you have to make a decision, either to go straight into fishing Lobsters or waiting a little while so you can get them quicker. Lobsters heal 12, give 90 exp and sell for around 400-450 raw. With lobsters don’t cook them unless you need the cooking exp as it loses money and burns quite easily. If you decide to fish lobsters go to Karamja with your lobster pot and start fishing. If you decide to wait a while keep on fly fishing or fishing until around level 45.
At level 50 you can now fish swordfish. Again you have to make a decision. Either go straight into harpooning swordfish or keep on fishing lobsters until around level 55 when you can get the swordfish gloves (from the fist of guthix minigame) Swordfish is also caught on the island of Karamja. Whilst fishing for Swordfish you will also get Tuna. Most players opt to drop the tuna after cooking it, to clear space for swordfish and also train cooking. The same thing that goes for lobsters also goes for swordfish don’t cook them as it loses money and they tend to burn quite easily. Swordfish sell for 540-580 raw and when cooked heal 14 hp and grants 100 exp.
