                                                           The Art of Runescape

Now Many of you must have played Runescape at one point of youre lives or may still be playing therefore you are looking for such articles giving advice help etc.

This will be a useful guide for all looking to get youre combat up as well as afford the weapons that come with increased combat.   IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT WILL GET YOU  A BANK LIKE THE ONE SHOWN IN THE PHOTO PLEASE SHUT THIS PAGE.

                                                                               Starting out

You start out in Lumbridge as all  beginners do. You are lvl 3 and have nothing but 25 gp, if i am not mistaken( i was lvl3 a long time ago). First, go buy a bronze hatchet from BOB in his shop a little south from where you start.(after of course finishing tutorial island.)

Around Lumbridge you will find numerous TREES(not oak, not willow- normal trees). Keep cutting these trees till you attain a woodcutting lvl of 15 at which you can start cutting OAK trees. These oak trees can be sold to get some money. * CAUTION- Do not drift to far from lumbridge. If you do so, you may get attacked by other creatures resulting in your death. Wait until you obtain a combat lvl of atleast 15 before you consider leaving Lumbridge.

Now you have a choice-

1) You can continue to cut Oak logs and sell them to the general store(much reduced price)

or

2) You can head north to Varrock(refer to the mini-map at the left corner of you’re screen) and sell the logs there. In the Varrock lies the Grand exchange which is the biggest Trading outpost in Runecape where people from all over runescape place their goods to be sold or place offers to buy things.

Ok once you’re happy with the amount of money you have stored in the bank- get atleast 6000 gp to be comfortable for now. Now with that 6000 gp buy-

1) 1 Iron Longsword/scimitar

2) 1 iron platebody

3)1 iron platelegs

4)1 iron full helm

5) 1 iron kiteshield

* the platebody, longsword can be obtained from various shops in Varrock itself, while the rest can be obtained through the Grand Exchange(g.e) or if you’re willing to risk running to Al-Kharid, Falador, etc.

Now you’re ready to train you’re Combat skills- Attack, defence, hitponts and strength.

*Note- This training is for people looking to be melee fighters.

Now,head  down to Lumbridge. (it is you’re choice whether you may want to bring food, though it is advisable to buy some food from the G.E(meat, fish of any kind)).

Now from the castle head east across he bridge where you will find many goblins loitering around. Start killing them. Use you’re food wisely.

RULE NO.1- IF YOU’RE HEALTH DROPS BELOW 5 AND YOU HAVE RUN OUT OF FOOD, RUN AWAY FROM THERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN. (goblins can hit upto 5 damage).

Keep Killing the ugly goblins till you have reached about lvl 15 Combat. Then i suggest you take up one of the following skills-

Fishing, Archery, Mining, Smthing

*Good mining and smithing lvls come in handy later in the game especially in the member world. Also Mining and Smithing  is another way of making money.( mentioned later in the Money, Money and More Money Section).

Remember to keep your strength or attack as your highest skill followed by defence. This is how you should keep your combat lvls-

Defence + 2 lvls Strength +2 levels Attack

or

Defence +2 lvls attack + 2 levels Strength.

*This does not apply if you are looking to be a attack, strength or defence pure.

Pures- Pures are those whose concentrate mostly on one skill paying very little attention to other skills.

Fishing-

This is another good source of money. It consumes less time and if you concentrate on it for a while( say 1 week), you could have a nice fishing lvl and in time could catch lobster, swordfish and on members sharks.

But first things first-

If you’re in Lumbridge , head to the swamp south of there and along the River Lum you will find small fishing nets next to small fishing net spots(these are on the map in the form of fishes). Now fish all you like and gradually rise to fishing rod, bait fishing, etc All the Fishing equipment can be purchased either at the G.E in Varrock or at the fishing store in Port Sarim.

Mining and Smthing-

Mining and smithing is a long and boring way to make money  but if you feel you’ve got time to kill then go right ahead with it.

If you plan to not do mining and directly go for smithing i.e that is to buy ores or bars, then skip the next 5 lines.

If you plan to increase mining alongside smithing- you’ll need a pickaxe. Pickaxes can be bought from  a dwarf in the dwarf mountain or from the G.E. Head to the dwarven mines with your trusty pickaxe and start mining some tin and copper.(beware of scorpions at the back part of the  mines)

Alternate places to mine are-

South-east of varrock.

If you want to smith, you need a hammer, which can be bought at the G.E. Now head to Falador or Al-Kharid(these 2 have banks closest to the furnaces).

Fill you’re inventory with the required number of the tin and copper and head to the furnace, smelt the bars and deposit the bars in you’re bank. Continue this until you have run out of ores. Now once you have smelted the bars, head to varrock- it has the closest anvil to the bank.- This walking must be getting irritating but unless you increase your magic lvls and get them high enough to perform some teleport spells, i am afraid you’ll have to walk.

Ok Once you reach Varrock, take your hammer and as many bars that can fit in a single inventory and head to the anvil which is directly south of the bank.

If you plan to take up either smithing, mining or fishing after getting your combat to 15 then you should atleast stay at it till lvl 22-23.

Now If you have the required lvl, i suggest you take up Steel or Black armour.

After mining, smithing or mining, you should take up combat again.

After Goblins, you should take on the barbarians of the Barbarian village or perhaps some dwarves. If you feel brave enough i suggest you descend into the SECURITY STRONGHOLD in the barbarian village and challenge the creatures within.* WARNING- FOR NOW DO NOT GO PAST THE FIRST LEVEL OF THE SECURITY STRONGHOLD IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE.

Continue this until you have attained the combat of lvl 25-27.

I will cover the details of melee training in the next addition.

Money, Money and more Money.

If you’re more of a money minded person, i suggest you look at this guide.

*note this is a money making guide for beginners and mediocre lvl players.

Now there are many ways to make money(non members)-

1) Woodcutting- once you can cut oak logs and willow logs, money comes much faster. In 1 week one can make 120k when cutting around only 300 logs a day. Remember to get the best axe when you’re cutting trees for money as with a better axe comes faster logs.

2) Fishing- Fishing is only advised as a form of income once a person has attained a decent lvl of fishing like around 35 when you start fishing tuna. Then fishing is a good source of income. Once you get to lobsters then the money is easy and fast. In a week when getting around 200 lobsters a day, one can make 580k in a week. Thats a decent amount of money.

3)Mining and Smithing- Money making is slow if you’re going for mining and smithing. If you are buying ores or bars, there is virtually no profit from selling the finished items. But if you’re willing to take the time. Dwarven mines are the best for mining and closest to a bank and Al-Kharid is the closest furnace to a bank. Also Varrock has the closest anvil to a bank.

3)Cow hides- Cows can be found in a large number near the goblins east of Lumbridge. Each cow hide is 100gp and should only be sold in bulk(minimum-400). Cows are fairly easy to kill.

4)Merchanting- This method of money making requires the least amount of effort but to be successful in merchanting, you have to take a risk with your money by checking which items get sold on the high price and can be bought on the low price. The profit you make is the difference between the high price and low price. The more items you merchant the more profit you make. But if you experiment with an item and find it does not sell you will have to sell back the items at the same price or low price resulting in no profit and only loss. Also when merchanting it is important to keep a constant watch on the prices. if prices drop you may go at a loss. My good friend bought 15 dharok platebodies and after he bought them, the price dropped, he faced huge losses and was stuck with the platebodies for some time.

Ok play well and play safe. I’ll come back with the detailed melee training guide next week or so.
