Runescape Guide to Moss Giants

A simple guide to finding and killing moss giants in F2p.

Moss giants are found in three places in F2p. One is deep wilderness with chaos respawns (only high lvls should do this), there’s Varrock sewers after you pass the skeletons, ghost, a spider web (need a melee weapon to cut through it) and many red spiders, and last but not least Crandor island. After you pass through red spiders, 2 waves of lesser demons and many skeletons. (Requires getting to crandor by doing dragon slayer (elvarg does not have to be killed for you pures out there, just sail to crandor and run through and open the hidden door by the lessers.

You should have ample food for all of these since they can hit 8s and constant 5s on people with 40 def and below. Pures can still achieve this however they will probably be ranging or maging them. I range them with 63 range however many people have been able to kill with 40-50 range. Maging them is easy enough since fire strikes and fire bolts are strong enough to kill them quickly with good mage exp.

The first spot is deep wilderness. There are three of them in multi combat area and lvl 40 wilderness. There are 5 chaos rune respawns. A teleport is a must for the lower lvls and lobsters are a must as well. Beware of pkers. To get there go to the bridge that divides varrock and edgeville. Go to the eastern side of it and walk north. You will pass the “Graveyard of Shadows”(lvl 19-about 22) the “Eastern Ruins” (lvl 30 wildy) and then you are there. Be careful around the eastern ruins since the hobgoblin mine is right beside it with many high lvl fire blasting, snare casting, mining, mages. Run or log out if you see any unless you will certainly win the fight.

The second spot is Varrock Sewers. You were here when you did the demon quest and had to collect the key. The entrance is a manhole cover located East of the castle walls, near the gallows. Now go North and do not enter the way you went to get the key. Open the door and walk east. Once you reach the rats go North and then West past the runes. Bring any melee weapon (hatchet, b-axe, schimmi) and cut the web when you travel south. Run West past the spiders. There are two spots-1) is north of the western wall and 2) is south of the western wall. Both are multi combat and it will attack the lower lvl player that is there. They die farely fast and not much exp is earned. Go for the emptiest server as possible. I do not advise ranging or maging as there are no safe spots.

The last spot is Crandor Island. This is a single combat area with 3 moss giants and mostly high lvls. This is usually containing 2 or 3 meleers and rarely has more. You must have completed or almost completed dragon slayer. If you have not completed dragon slayer this is of no use to you yet. I am a pure ranger and have found this to be very useful and there are no lvl 3s running around. To stay pure and kill here I am going to let the secret out. Do all of Dragon Slayer even sail to the island just don’t, I repeat don’t kill Elvarg to complete the quest. Just run through the door that you exit by (your message box says a sign that’s like this “I think I’d better remember where this door is”). This allows you to have 1) an extensive mining area 2) a place that very few low lvls know of and 3) a place to show off the lowest lvl you can be to be there.

What I bring to Mosses:

  • Melee- EQUIPPED- full rune, rune schimitar, power amulet, d hide vamps, and Fighting boots from the SoS.
  • INVENTORY- 20 lobsters, lobster pot, str pot, fire staff , air staff and natures. This leaves 3 spots for b bones to bury and a spot for money to go.
  • Range- EQUIPPED- Iron plate, Iron full helm, Power amulet, Dhide chaps, D’hide vamps, fighting boots from the SoS.
  • INVENTORY- lobster pot, air staff, fire staff, natures, 16 lobsters,
  • Magic- EQUIPPED- Fire staff, Mage Amulet, Wizard hat, Wizard robes, Wizard shirt, regular gloves and boots
  • INVENTORY- 2k/4k/6k airs, 1k/2k/3k minds, lobster pot, space for money, 20 lobsters.
  • Substitutions- for melee you can use full adamant instead of rune, str ammy instead of power, and gloves instead of d’hide vamps.

STR pots are not required. A tele can be brought and lobster pot isn’t needed if you are buying tuna or lobbs from the store.

Range – You can use leather body or dhide body (quest complete and 40def) and coif

Mage – Anything that doesn’t give negative mage bonus, earth strikes work too with only half the airs required. Fire bolts have also been used, however on f2p chaos can’t be rced.

Why Mosses – They drop steel kites, mith swords, numerous runes, black squares and give b bones which can be sold for 300ea. If you are selling them at the mosses to stay longer and don’t want prayer sell for 1/3 of the price or 100. People will not buy if the cost is too high.

There actually is a safe spot in the Varrock Sewers Moss Giant area. It is on the east wall, by the rocks and behind the tree. It is nice to mage from there, but you have to run quite a ways to bank.
