RuneScape: Herblore Tips – Where to Get Herbs
I’ve been a member for only a bit of time, and absolutely love herblore. Today I share a few of my tips with you.
RuneScape is a real fun game. And I certainly have made a few posts on RuneScape. Those were all tips or guides for f2p users. F2p stands for free to play by the way.
I’ve also mentioned that I’ve been a member. Now, member stats are plenty of fun to train, and in my opinion, two are the stand outs. These two stats are summoning and herblore. And today, I’m going to be giving a few tips on one of those two skills, herblore.
Herblore basically means the field of herbs. It involves obtaining herbs, and then making them into potions which can be used to train other skills. For example, a guam leaf (herb) is mixed with an eye of newt into a vial of water, it will form 3 doses of attack potion.
A few notes:
- You can only start herblore after doing a very simple quest, Druidic Ritual. This quest can be started in Taverley. You gain 250 experience points in herblore from that quest, which gets you to Level 3 in the skill, which is the level needed to start training herblore.
- All potions made are made in a vial. The vial has to be filled with water. A vial, as well as an eye of newt, can be bought at the herb store in Taverley for less than 5 coins each.
- All potions made have 3 doses instead of a complete four, except for weapon poison which has only it’s one full dose.
- Almost all herbs obtained (from drops, thieving etc.) are grimy. You need a particular level to clean the herb, and this gives you a bit of experience as well. Refer to the herblore in game guide to find out what level you need for what herb.
For every potion, you need a herb and a secondary ingredient. A secondary ingredient can be found in particular and are easier to obtain in most cases than the herb. Refer to the in game herblore guide to find out what 2 or more ingredients are required to make a particular potion at a particular level. Here are the only two places that I know where herbs can be obtained from drops abundantly.
Flesh Crawlers (Second floor- stronghold of security)
I’ve mentioned these monsters in my combat guide, and they do help me a lot in member’s drops. They don’t drop much in f2p worlds, but definitely drop more efficient items in the member’s world. Not only do they drop 42 fire rune most of the time, but a herb will come along with it. This is mostly a grimy guam, which is the main herb of the game. It is needed at the start of herblore, and you require an eye of newt as well, which can be bought at the herb shop in Taverley for an extremely low price. When you have the clean guam leaf, mix it in a vial of water with the eye of newt to form 3 doses of attack potion, as well as receive 25 experience points in herblore. Other herbs found from flesh crawlers include marrentill, tarromin, harralander, irit, avantoe, kwuarm, cadantine, lantadyme, dwarf weed and the ever famous and rare ranarr, which can be sold for an enormous 10,000 coins or used to make 3 doses of prayer potion with snape grass which can also be sold for a great price. Flesh crawlers are only around Levels 25- 35 so they won’t be so much of a threat, although they do attack quite fast.
Around 30- 40% of a flesh crawler’s drops will be a herb, which will mostly be guam, marrentill, tarromin or harralander and will help the lower levels a lot.
Outlaws (Just west of Grand Exchange)
Outlaws aren’t known too well, and you can sort of tell by their name =|. They are found just west of Grand Exchange. To be exact, they are only a few steps south of the tunnel at the north west end of the Grand Exchange. They are level 32, and have a good scene to them. They describe gypsies. They have tents and bonfires and all that classic gypsy tradition. The bad thing is, they give hardly any combat experience. In the sense, they’re real easy to kill, and are no where near aggressive, but they only give 1, 2 or 3 experience points even for a hit of around 20. The good thing is, they drop herbs 30- 40% of the time as well. This includes the same as those for flesh crawlers, except they drop a few higher level herbs less often but the mighty ranarr more often.
This will also help the lower levels a lot.
Now for some shocking news.
- My herblore level is only 22. And no, I did not copy any of this from another website, it is all original.
- I got there in 3 days of training. And that too no addiction, just 1 hour on herblore. That means 22 levels in 3 hours, and no quest experience.
Many people consider herblore hard to train. And believe me, so do I. I definitely think herblore is hard. But with these tips, trust me, you’ll storm through the levels, and have loads of fun. After all, so did I.
