RuneScape: History of PKing
Runescape: History of Pking.
Runescape has a very long and complicated history of Pking (where you can get rewards because there is too many pvp mini-games to tell of).
The very first Pking introduced to players was the Wilderness. There players could attack people based on the depth you were in. The range was your level minus the depth you were in and plus the depth you were in. If you killed a player you got everything they had except if they did not have a skull which you would then get the same things minus 3 items. Every world has a wilderness and going to the mage arena and agility arena was very dangerous.
Then the next type of pking which became very popular was the dueling arena which was available only for members. You could put a stake as high as you want and the winner of the fight would get it. You can also have many options like no prayer, no food etc. currently this is available for everyone but you can stake a maximum of only 10k.
In 2007, to many player’s awe Jagex took away the option of killing players in the wilderness. Instead they replaced the players with reverants. Also a trading limit was put that limited the dueling arena.
When this happened Jagex started making many pvp mini-games to replace the wilderness. Some of these include fist of guthix, clan wars, and lava pits. Even though these were fun they had little or no rewards.
Finally in 2008 Pvp worlds were released which seemed even better then the wilderness. You could Pk all over Runescape! These worlds had both advantages and disadvantages. The biggest disadvantage was that first of all there was a lot of D-bowers who could stay in the safe-zone and easily step out and kill you. Also you had to gain EP and you could kill someone with 100 mill and not get anything. The good thing was that you could do 26k tricks with friends and get lots of money and you could kill someone with 100k and get 10mill.
At about the same time Bounty Hunter was released which was a big failure. The ideas were very good and the fact that you got everything from the person you killed was even better. However, the penalties enraged everyone and often players lost godswords and rich items when having a penalty and facing a clan.
Finally jagex introduced perfected Pking. They mixed together bounty hunter and Pvp worlds and added a counter of your EP. Bounty Hunter worlds were the best thing even created. All you had to do is wait half an hour and you get a target. Even if your target has no stuff on and you have 0 EP you could get up to 5mill which i got several times.
Everything seemed to be perfect when Jagex had the 2 worst updates in the history of Runescape.
First they removed the chance of getting rare items like whips, barrows items etc unless the person actually had one with them. Then they made everyone skulled in the wildy. You could not use the protect item prayer either. Now players could not use God-swords, whips etc without losing them. Finally the compensated a little for this by making +1 worlds where everyone kept 1 item upon death. This was still stupid because you could not be a dharoker any more.

I don’t get into these games but nice article.
