RuneScape: How to Install Rsbot and Actually Get It to Work
RsBot is a pain to install, yet is such a help that it is a waste not to try. This guide will hopefully take a process which is seemingly difficult and make it completely easy.
I have always wondered why such an excellent and easy to use program could be so incredibly to hard to install. I first heard of RsBot a while ago and really wanted to try it out. However after many attempts at trying to working it, I realized it was impossible and gave up. It was only when a friend came and showed me to install it a few weeks ago that has now enabled to actually do so. I shall now share my method with you.
The first thing which needs to be done is to install jdk (java development kit). This can done by heading to the sun java website and downloading it from there. By itself, this is quite a tricky process so you may also wish to find guide on doing this.
Ok lets get started, now you will need to install “svn”, this can be found at http://tortoisesvn.net/downloads . Svn basically is a folder manager which can be linked to folders on the internet. You will need this to download the bot and scripts and also it allows you to ‘update’ your bot at a click of a button, good huh? Installing svn is painless so I recommend you just follow the default options, after doing so you will need to restart your computer (you may now want to add this page to your favourites before doing so).
The next step is to set up a folder in your “My Documents” (Start > My Documents). Call this new folder “RsBot”, then right click on it and select “svn checkout”. Now be careful not to touch anything else and just paste the following into the url of repository; “http://rsbotsvn.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/“. You will also need to change the checkout directory to your RsBot folder. Apply these changes and the folder should then start updating (downloading).
Once the folder has finished updating, go into it and click “compile”. This simply sorts out your scripts so they can actually run properly. Now on my PC it said JDK was missing at this point (If it compiles fine for you then head to the next paragraph). However if you have a similar problem the simple solution I found was to right click the “compile” file in your RsBot folder, so should find a line like “CALL FindJDK.bat”. It could well be different in yours depending on your version but basically it is just one line calling to find the JDK file on your PC. Delete this line and save the file. The Compile tool should now work, if not try reinstalling JDK altogether (making sure you have the latest version).
Finally you are now ready to the Bot, double click a file which looks like “RsBot-(Version number here)” and wait a good few seconds and it should be running. To run one of the scripts which come with it just click “run” and then “run script”.
