RuneScape: Less Challenging Than It Used to Be

Updates might be intended to help improve the game but not balancing what you update can make the game feel less of an achievement and more boring. This is one reason why I recently quite RuneScape.

Now I know there is not too many older RuneScape players at there that still play RuneScape from the beginning like I have so there will probably be a large majority that will not see this like I do. RuneScape has becoming easier and easier. Some have complained that Jagex was servicing new incoming players more the the older more experienced players who need more content. I say that it is the simple matter of fact that the older MMOs get easier just because of all the updates.

The purpose of the updates is to make the game better right? So what do you do to make the game better? You make stronger rarer and more powerful items. Over time that item that used to be rare is now common so you take another step and make an ever stronger rarer and more powerful item. This goes along with training skill such as the combat skills. With more power weapons for instance you can gain more experience in a shorter amount of time.

While this is a good thing in theory there becomes a problem. There is only 99 levels in RuneScape. There has not been a change in the amount of levels one can obtain since the creation of the game. World of WarCraft has been increasing the amount of levels that you can level up to over time. Also several other MMOs have done the same during major updates. This services the older players who have been around for a very long time. This keeps the loyal members and players happy.

RuneScape has this one skill that is the perfect example of how it has fallen behind the times. The smithing skill in RuneScape used to be extremely profitable because you could make the best gear in the game. It was very hard to get the resources but regardless it was even harder to get that most powerful weapon which could be smithed. Now that same set rune armors and weapons are very cheap. With in a few hours I could afford what used to be the most powerful weapon in the game.

Smithing is now impossible to make money except for smelting which give hardly any experience. Now the game is I want to train the fastest possible way. Cooking is not profitable because of this. It is too easy to cook raw fish into cooked fish. It used to be the same price or where you could at least make a little profit. Now it is impossible. This goes hand in hand with updates.

Skills are now much easier to train then what they used to be. I am alright with that but then that you worked four times harder is now achieved with ease and you have this player that only joined a couple weeks ago right behind where you are in concern of progress. A few of the most famous RuneScape players have quite RuneScape because of this. I have quite because of this.

Now granted that RuneScape is a very good game to play. I believe I have just grown out of it as well. I have a very high level account and I find it a bore because the only thing left I have on my skills is to train them to 99 which I recieve a skill cape. There is not real use for a cape other then to show them off. Well you can show them off with the other couple of thosand that have also reached the level of 99 with you.

That is exactly my point there. The game is getting better but the level cap needs to increase. Loyal players that have been playing from the start feel less appreciated and are more opted to leave the game. Then you have those who will stay and argue until they are more then fed up with it. It starts the cycle of loyal old experienced versus the players who are just ariving at the scene.

The problem why the players that are just arriving at the scene always win or at least almost always. Is because of that fact that the amount of players that are at the top of that chain and are active is small. You will almost always have a larger amount of newer players coming in on a game that is growing.

RuneScape has been growing for many years and this is where the issue built up. With the updates consistently going in the favor of newer players, which is fine until you do it too much, over a very long period of time, you create this unbalanced game which makes it too easy to achieve what used to be hard to achieve. On top of that you cannot achieve more then what used to be achieved. The scale is the same but the weight is gaining weight.

I have quit under these grounds. Although this is not including them all as this is only one reason why I have quite, I feel that RuneScape still has it but Jagex needs to make it where your character can develop more then just 99 skill levels in each skill. I’m not sure what number they should go to next or if you can even save it by other means such as quests and minigames.

your absolutely right! I believe that they need to catch up and up the level caps and make some more graphics overhauls. I also hope that in the future that people can zoom in on their character’s so that they get more of a feel of the experience (and for more fun in you-tube and such) like how other online games can. What I would like also for jagex to do, is to develepe progression bars for then next combat levels and such,(some people don’t like math!!)
