RuneScape Quest Guide: Shield of Arrav

Level of Difficulty: Novice

Length of Quest: Medium

Requirements: One friend and be able to kill a level 23 enemy

Items needed to complete the quest: 20 coins, armour, and a weapon

Start Point: Speak to Reldo in the Varrock Library

Start the Quest by speaking to Reldo in the Varrock Library. Tell him you are in search of a quest. He will tell you to find a book called the Shield of Arrav. Look for the blue book among the shelves. It will tell you the history of the Phoenix and Black Arm gangs. Talk to Reldo again. He will tell you to talk to Baraek in Varrock Center. Go to the fur stall and talk to him. He will only talk for 20 coins. Give him the money and he will tell you the location of the Phoenix Gang HQ. Walk south toward the southern exit of Varrock and talk to Charlie the Tramp and ask if there is anything down the alley. He will tell you that the headquarters of the Black Arm gang. Ask if he thinks they will let you join. He says to talk to Katrine at Black Arm HQ. Now the way the quest goes changes depending on what gang you join. Look under the gang you chose for your part of the quest. Your friend should join the clan you didn’t.

Phoenix Gang: If you chose the Phoenix Gang then head toward the southern part of Varrock and go toward the ! mark. Go down the stairs and talk to Straven. Choose the option “I know who you are.” After the talk he will ask what you want. Offer to join. He said in order to prove your loyalty you gotta take care of Johnny the Beard and bring back the intelligence report he has. Go to the Blue Moon Inn and kill Johnny the Beard and take the intelligence report. You are now an official member of the gang and will get a key to the weapons depot. Go through the door with Straven and head to the back of the area. You will see a chest. Open it and take the half of the Shield of Arrav from it. Leave hq and meet your Black Arm gang friend and give him the weapons key and have them kill the level 23 weaponsmaster and get pick up the two phoenix crossbows it drops. Now proceed to the end with your friend and both of you follow the steps.

Black Arm Gang: If you chose the Black Arm gang head down the alley with Charlie the Tramp and go to the house at the end. Go inside and talk to Katrine. Tell her you know where you are and you won’t reveal your source of information. When she asks what you want, tell her you what to join and to give you a chance. She tells you to steal to phoenix crossbows. Meet your Phoenix gang friend and trade him for the weapons key. Go to the weapons storage on the map and open the door. Climb the ladder and then kill the level 23 weaponsmaster. Take the two crossbows he drops and take them to Katrina. You are now a member of the Black Arm gang (like me). Go to the main part of the headquarter and go upstairs. Search the cupboards for half of the Shield of Arrav. Now proceed to the end with your friend and both of you follow the steps.

The End: Now that you and your friend have part of the shield, go and talk to King Roald at the Varrock Palace. He will tell you verify the realness of the shield by talking to the curator at the Museum. Both of you walk to the museum and talk to the Curator Haig Halen. He will look at your shield and give you both two half certificates. Both of you trade one of your half certificates, combine them, and go talk to King Roald to claim your reward. Quest Complete.
