RuneScape: Revenant Hunting
A straightforward guide on how to hunt revenants.
Ever since the old wildy was taken out of Runescape, player killers have now either quit the game entirely, or they have just moved on to PvP or Bounty Worlds. The wilderness is now a less crowded place, and people think of it as relatively safe. However, Jagex has altered that and has placed new monsters in the wilderness. These NPCs are called Revenants. These monsters are exceptionally dangerous, being smarter than the average Runescape monster. They can not only hit tremendously high for their combat level, but they can also heal themselves a certain amount of times. To top it all off, they are even aware of what protect prayers you are using, so players have to be sharp on clicking the right prayers and switching them.
Many players have suffered losses in the wilderness due to the power these monsters possess, and many players consider fighting a Revenant pointless and stupid. What I’m going to talk about now is Revenant hunting. Revenants do not drop anything rewarding, so it’s just purely for the fun and adventure, or even revenge for some of you. First of all, you’ll need a relatively big clan. (preferrably at least 4-6 people) To do this, you’ll have to ask around or invite your friends to come with you. At first, people will call you stupid and childish for wanting to hunt revenants. But revs aren’t all that strong against several hunters.
Never underestimate a revenant. A level 45 revenant would well easily kill off a heavily armed level 60 player. To hunt for revenants who are, for example level 68-75, (vampires and werewolves) you’ll need at least 3-5 players of level 70-80 combat. The best combat level for revenant hunting would be level 75 and above of combat level. Always hunt revenants who are round the same level range as your clan is or preferrably lower. However, a level 105 revenant ork can easily be piled and defeated by 5 level 80 players.
What to Bring
You’ll need some decent weapons and armour which isn’t too expensive. As revenants usually use magic since it is their strongest combat style, the best armour would be d’hide body and chaps (F2P). This will provide good protection against magic attacks and a decent protection against melee and ranged as well. As for the head gear, your best bet would be either a coif or a wizard hat. (also for protection against magic) The best weapon you could use would be the rune scimitar. And as for the shield, a rune kiteshield or berserker would be good. (good against melee and range, and since you’ll be wearing d’hides, it won’t affect your defence against magic by much) The gloves and the boots are optional, but the best would be to juts wear regular leather gloves and either leather boots or fighting/fancy boots. Capes can be just the regular capes dropped by highway men.
Maging is not recommended in revenant hunting because these these monsters will attack with any combat style. If you wear wizard robes, their range attacks will cut right through you. Ranging is okay, but they hit relatively low damage, despite the speed that a maple shortbow can offer. Melee would be the best, because you can fight in d’hide equipment as well as wield a shield. With ranging, you don’t have much protection from melee and with maging, you won’t have any protection against range attacks (unless you wear armour or d’hides, but that’ll make your magic attacks uneffective and weak).
The next thing is to bring a lot of food. Even an experienced player is likely to run out of food in a battle against revenants. These NPCs can heal themselves for a limited number of times. The best food would be to bring lobsters or better. If you are in a big clan, and you have decent defence, tunas are acceptable. Do not bring anything less than tunas. Also save a spot for a strength potion or two, and if you’re hunting below level 20 wildy, you could also bring some teleport runes/tablets.
Where to Hunt
There are a few places to hunt, preferrably not too far away from the old Bounty Hunter volcano. In around level 12-14 wilderness, there is an altar with many bone respawn spots. That’s a good place to start off, because prayer is important in rev hunting and you can recharge your prayer points there if you run out during a fight. The low level wilderness there can also be useful because you might not want to pick a fight with revenants 30 levels higher than you are.
There is also one more place that has an altar to recharge if you run out of prayer points during a fight. This is the chaos temple. It is recommended to hunt revs here with a group of at least 5 level 80 players. This is simply because a little further down south on the map are the ruins near the bandit camp. This is the main respawn area for ALL types of revenants. This altar is located in around level 38 wilderness and this is dangerous for many players because they can be attacked by revs which are nearly 40 combat levels higher than their own. And to make matters harder than they already are, many revenants in this area tend to wander around in packs. Yes, packs meaning their numbers can range from a mere pair up to even 5 revenants. The most common revenants here are werewolves and orks. An occasional vampire might turn up, too. Knights do sometimes show up, but if you’re under lvl 85, you won’t be attacked by these.
