RuneScape Server Moves – How This Will Minimize Lags!!!

You’ve seen all the updates on the Runescape homepage but what does it all mean?

Runescape worlds (which are servers a maximum of 200 users can log into) are all run on servers in various locations. Runescape hosts worldwide servers that help users minimize pings to ensure that player get the minimum lag in game.

Jagex have recently been trying to move their servers to try and make each world independent. What does this mean?

Before, if one server experienced technical difficulties and went down it would cause all worlds on that server to also go down. Now, with the recent moves, if a server goes down it will most likely bring down only 1 or 2 worlds. This update also gives Jagex more bandwidth. This means they have more space to update.

When connecting to a Runescape Game Server, you will see a countries flag next to that world. You will also see the counties name next to the world. This will tell you what server the world you are connecting to is hosted on. To minimize lag, it is best to connect to your closest server. You can look at the pings to help you find out what world is better. Pings (in the form of milliseconds) tell you the response time of the server. A faster response is better therefore a low ping is better than a high ping.

You might also see a RIS next to some worlds instead of a flag. RIS stands for Runescape International Server. These servers usually give fair pings to all users. Again it is best to look at the pings to see which server is the best for you.

This server move is great for all Runescape players as now they can minimize lag. This is especially good for the countries with slow internet or people with dial-up connections.
