RuneScape Skill Guide

All you need to know about all the free to play skills in RuneScape.

Okay I’m going to start this guide off by saying if there is anything missing in my guide or you think it needs something else, just message me and I will be happy to change it.

With that being said, lets start off with attack. Attack is the skill that determines what type (bronze, iron, rune and so on) you can carry. Attack also determines how much damage you do while using the stab melee. You can level up your attack by using the stab technique while fighting. At the beginning on level 1, you can carry bronze and iron weapons, the two weakest of the groups. After that, upon reaching level 5, you will be able to carry up to steel weapons. When you have advanced to level 10, if you could afford it, you would be carrying a black weapon of some sort. Upon reaching the attack level of 20 you would be able to carry any type of mithril weapon of your choice. Once you get up to attack level of 30, you can hold any type of adamant weapon. The next checkpoint is attack level 40, which you can carry rune weapons upon reaching. The last but absolutely not least checkpoint for free to play players is reaching attack level 60 which allows you to carry corrupt dragon weapons (found as drops in bounty hunter worlds).

The next skill we’re going to visit is hitpoints. Hitpoints is the skill which determines how much attacks you can take before you are killed, thus making this a very important skill. Luckily for you, hitpoints automatically goes up no matter what type of attack you are using. While in a fight if you see a red “hitsplat” with a number inside of it, that means you have been hit and taken damage, the number tells you how much damage you’ve taken. A blue “hitsplat” means that you were able to block your opponents attack and no damage was taken. That is all that applies to us free to play people.

Now the skill we are going to touch on is strength. Strength is also a very important skill seeing as it determines how many hitpoints you can take away from your opponent. Strength xp goes up while using the slash or crush technique of fighting. This is one of the most limited skills for free to play people.

Next we will examine the defense skill. Your defense level determines what type of armour you can wear. Defense xp goes up while using the block technique of fighting. Defense also helps protect you from taking lots of damage. When you start out your defensive level will be 1, which means the only armour you can wear is bronze and iron. Not a great place to start. But four short levels away, at level 5, you can wear all types of steel armour, which aren’t nearly as weak. In 5 levels from there, at level 10, you can be seen wearing any type of black armour. The next checkpoint you will reach is double the last one at level 20, which allows you to wear mithril armour. Upon reaching level 30, you can wear any and every item of adamant armour. Next, is rune, at level 40. And once again, last but not least at level 60 you can wear corrupt dragon armour of all types.

The next skill, which is one of my personal favorites is mining. Mining xp is raised by, you guessed it, mining! When you first begin your mining career, you will only be able to use a bronze and iron pickax and mine 4 things, copper, tin, clay, and rune essence (if you’ve completed the rune mysteries quest). Your next mining checkpoint is going to be on level 6, when you can use a steel pickax. Level 10 is the next checkpoint where you become capable of mining blurite ores. You reach another checkpoint at level 15 when you begin to be able to mine iron ores. The next important level is mining is level 20 because now you can mine some silver ores. One level later at level 21 you should go out and buy yourself a nice mithril pickax because it is now the best one you can use. Upon reaching level 30 you will now be able to mine heaps and heaps of coal for yourself. Again, just one mere level later, at level 31, you can mine with adamant pickaxes. Next, when you reach level 40 you will be able to mine some gold at the crafting guild or other locations. Once again, for the third time, one level later at 41, you will be able to finally use the rune pickax. Now its not for quite a few levels that you can mine runite ores, seeing as the next checkpoint is level 55 and it is being able to mine mithril ores. After that, at level 70, you could mine some adamant ore for yourself or for sale purposes. And finally at level 85, you will be able to make a fortune mining runite ores.

Along with mining comes smithing, which is a skill that will take alot of time and patience. Smithing xp goes up by either smelting bars using a furnace, or making items out of the bars you have smelted using an anvil and a hammer. There is a checkpoint nearly every level, so i will just touch on the main ones, the smelting. Starting off, on level 1, you can smelt bronze bars out of tin and copper ore. Next on level 8, you can smelt blurite bars from blurite ores (after completing the knight’s sword quest). After that, on level 15, you can smelt iron bars by using an iron ore. But don’t expect to get full inventory, it only works 50% of the time. The next smelting checkpoint is level 20, where you can smelt silver bars from silver ores. When you level up 10 times after that, and reach level 30, you can now smelt steet bars from 1 iron and 2 coal ores. When you’ve reached level 40 you might wanna start mining some gold ores because they can be used to smelt gold bars you can now make. The next smelting checkpoint is level 50, which is when you can smelt mithril bars out of 1 mithril and 4 coal. Eventually you will reach level 70, which is when you can smelt adamant bars out of 6 coal and 1 adamant ore. Finally at level 85 you get the capability to smelt rune bars from 8 coal and 1 runite ore and be rolling in the big bucks.

Now we are going to switch gears and learn a bit about fishing. Fishing is a good money-making skill especially in player vs player worlds. The only problem is you only start out at level 1 using a small net, fishing shrimps, a weak catch. Luckily only 4 levels later, at level 5, you can begin fishing sardines in the ocean using bait and a fishing pole. 5 levels later, level 10 you are still out in the ocean bait fishing but now it is for herring. Back to the net fishing at level 15 for anchovies out in the ocean. Then at level 20 you are able to start catching trout by fly fishing in the rivers of runescape. Then at level 25 you are back to using bait and a fishing pole but this time it is in the river and fishing for pikes. Yummy. Back to fly fishing at level 30 in the river for salmon. Then finally using a new technique at level 35, harpoon fishing, for tuna. Now using that lobster pot, you can cage fish for lobster at level 40. Finally the best fish us free to play guys can catch, the swordfish, with a harpoon at level 50.
