Runescape Skill Secrets: How to Make a Prayer Pure That Actually Works
Prayer pures – underestimated, but highly deadly. Wanna know how to make one?
How to make a Prayer Pure
Your objective as a prayer pure is to get as high of a prayer as possible. Seriously. It’s that simple. (Of course, you can also raise your strength and attack, but that’s a no-brainer, and will not be covered in this guide).
Why a Prayer Pure?
A prayer pure has all sorts of distinct advantages. Firstly, if you only train prayer, you can have a deceptively low combat level (15 at level 99, seriously) while having complete and total invulnerability (50% against players, but still). Or at least until your prayer points run out, anyway.
Still, that is pretty cool – a level 8 having a Greater Demon hit 0’s at them. It makes for fun screenshots/videos/anything else you can think of, really.
Secondly, if you train Prayer in conjunction with Strength and Prayer, you won’t need to train your defense. Ever. Having 1 defense, 45 prayer and wearing something like, oh, monks robes, is going to net you more defense than full rune armor with 45 defense. Definitely much cheaper (a set of monks costs about 1k – full rune costs about 220k)
(Note that I don’t say that prayer provides you with infinite protection – this is theoretically true, of course, but since I’m comparing rune armor (f2P), there should not be any prayer potions available).
Lastly, besides bragging value and epic defense, we also have versatility. Defense is only good for one thing – defense. With prayer, you can boost attack, defense, magic, ranged, block against magic, ranged, etc. – all with one skill!
Of course, there’s just one little hiccup – prayer pures are just too hard to train for most people, due to cost and patience restrictions. But not any more! This guide will teach you the guide to ultimate PvE domination!
So, how do we get to making one?
Simple really. Get bones and bury them. What I am going to teach you here is where and most importantly, how.
If you’re a hardcore Prayer trainer (which only trains Prayer, no combat stats)(which is not recommended)you have very limited options. Either skill or pickup. Pickup is probably the slowest way ever of getting bones, but if you hang enough Lumbridge long enough you should be able to get a respectable number of those.
Remember to do the Restless Ghost’s quest first thing of the Tutorial Island! It gives you something like 9 prayer levels (if memory serves) and is a great introduction to the beginning prayers.
Skilling is a viable option, of course. I don’t recommend woodcutting because you’re going to be very bored before reaching level 65 and we don’t want to add to your boredom, do we? Prayer is by far the hardest skill to train in terms of cost and time (Construction beats Prayer in cost, however), so being a hardcore Prayer Pure will be very very agonizing.
If you’re not a hardcore Prayer trainer, however (i.e. trains attack/defense/ranged), then your training will be much faster. By killing monsters and burying the bones straight, you will be able to gain quite a few prayer levels, and PLUS it won’t be as boring as skilling, buying heaps of bones, then standing at the Grand Exchange to bury, withdraw, bury, etc. Boorrring. (Believe me, I tried this method, but stopped somewhere at my 700th bone).
(Side note: if you are skilling then buying bones, make sure you buy normal bones instead of big bones – the difference in efficiency is made up by extravagant bbone cost)
As a combat/prayer hybrid, I recommend that you train on the Melee side, because maces add to prayer bonus and you will get more performance enhancing prayers anyway. Training as a ranger is also a viable option – however, you run the extra cost of arrows which might have been used for more bones. Training as a mage is far out of the question. You could try, of course…
Once you reach level 40 by either picking up/training/skilling, you’re pretty much set. You get your first two protection prayers (again, if memory serves). Melee is 3 levels away. So keep training! Meantime, you can try tackling those pesty wizards at the wizard tower or the barbarian archers at barbarian village.
(Oh, yes, I forgot to mention how to train, so here goes!)
Start by killing chickens until 10 in the selected skill, burying bones and stockpiling ze feathers. You can then move on to monks at the Monastery and kill them till 20/30/40 – you could stay here forever I suppose. Once you reach 40/30/~ attack/range/strength, upgrade to the desired armor (attack – rune mace, range – maple short, strength – nothing) and move on to abovementioned barbarians. Your prayer is still not enough to protect, and your defense is 1, so you might have a hard time. Hence the reason for camping at monks.
Once you’ve reached your desired level(s) ~45 for prayer etc. you should be undefeatable! You’d be something like a level 20-25 taking down lesser demons with MELEE or RANGED, while level 25 pures are busy getting their green dragonhide/rune scimmy or whatever.
I suppose you could PWN at the duel arena. Let those pures turn off armor, whatever – just look out for prayer and forfeit. They will call you a noob and all that and try to forfeit, but w/e. Try to wear misleading armor and clothes (etc. full iron and a mithril scimmy) to fool the pures.
Congratulations on making it this far! The glory is all yours! (Pictures will be added later when I feel like it)

i dont understand whats wrong with magic/prayer?
The cost? This is an unfunded prayer pure guide, remember?
not bad, i have 43 prayer 8 combat, “its 99 pray” ftw.
Yes, 43 prayer gives 8 combat if you do it pure and ‘right’, which is why i mentioned it in the greater demon scenario
I’m making a prayer beast, should be fun. Getting prayer up to 43 will only add 5 combat levels, which is hilariously small considering you can get 50% immunity, plus boosting other things. Nice guide!
Yes, you’re correct, Jotto. When you reach level 20, you will have 50% immunity and a decent amount of str/attack, which will outperform any pure strength/attack/ranger.
