RuneScape Skills

In this article I will explain the skills there are, what they do and how to level them:

There 24 skills in Runescape and nine of these skills are only member skills:

You must pay Jagex to become a member.

The free to play skills are:

• Attack
• Strength
• Defence
• Hit-points
• Ranging
• Magic
• Rune-crafting
• Crafting
• Mining
• Smithing
• Cooking
• Fishing
• Fire-making
• Woodcutting
• Prayer

I will only be explaining the free to play skills:

Attack, strength, defence and hit-points:

• The higher your attack, the more likely you will cause damage on your opponent.
• The higher your strenght is, the more damage you will cause on your opponent.
• The higher your defence is, the less likely you will be damaged by your opponent.
• The higher your hit-points,  the opponent needs to damage you more.

To level in these skills, you must choose the attack style you want to train and attack anything. Hit points experience is given for any of these attacking styles.

As you level these, your combat level will rise.

Ranging:

ranging is like archery. You need a now and some arrows, and to level this, you attack anything. You can choose what ranging style you want to use, accurate (experience for attack), rapid (experience for strength) or long-range (experience for defence). If you have high range, you can do a lot of damage, and this skill also levels faster than magic. Rangers are strong against magic but are weak against fighters.

Magic:

Magic uses runes, there are useful spells such as teleports and turning things to gold and there are destructive spells used for attacking. You can do very hard damage to your opponent with magic especially on melee attackers as they are weak against magic. Just keep using spells to level you magic.

Rune-crafting:

Runecrafting allows you to make runes. First of all you must do the runecrafting quest, then either buy or mine rune essence. then you enter the rune altar using a talisman, tiara or staff by buying it or making it. You then click the altar and your runes are created. As a free to player, you can only make water, fire, earth, wind, mind and body runes. Runecrafting is a good way of making money.

Crafting:

Crafting allows you to make things such as jewellery, leather armour and pottery. To level you will need to craft things. The best thing to craft is tiaras as they give 52.2xp each. 

Mining:

mining helps you mine better ores and makes you mine faster. it is a good way of making money. Mining takes a long time to level, the quickest way is to power mine iron.

Smithing:

you can smith armour to sell or wear. You can make better amour the higher the level you are and make a lot of money. To gain smithing levels, you can smelt bars and/or smith them into armour.

Cooking:

The higher you cooking level is the less chance you will burn you food. You can also cook better food as you level up. To gain levels, you will need to cook.

Fishing:

The higher your fishing is, the faster you can fish and you can catch better fish. For example using a harpoon for catching swordfish, if you have a high level in fishing, you will catch more swordfish than tuna. To level, you must fish.

Fire-making:

The higher your fire-making the faster you can light a fire. You can also light better wood. To level this skill you need to make fires.

Woodcutting:

the higher your woodcutting, the faster and better wood you can chop. Cutting and selling yews is a great way to earn money. To level woodcutting, you need a hatchet and you just keep chopping trees.

Prayer:

Prayer gives you certain powers, for example “Eagle Eye”, this increases your range by 15%. You can level prayer by burying bones. The higher your prayer the better powers you can use and the longer you can use them for.

Your combat level will rise if you level prayer.
