Runescape Tips:scamming

Scamming, learn about it here.

As a Runescape player you need to know the basic and advance on how to tell a scammer when you see one. One thing to keep in mind is that scammers are always in “pvp” worlds also known as player vs. player. Now to the point, you have finally entered a player vs. player world ready to get some very valuable items, then a player that you do not know ask you to be on his or her team. It will look like this; the player will just type “team?” Many people fall for this, also this trick has been used in Runescape ever since.

The one bad thing is that if someone asks you to become a team that you do not know just say no unless you know them, this way you do not lose your expensive items. Another way of scamming that should be avoided is called a “do this” scam. This scam consists of one player saying to another ‘bring 25k and a full inventory of lobsters with you full rune on to get 405k!”. Now you are asking on why would someone fall for that, but it happens. When a player asks you to go an area in a player vs. player world, you must say no. All that this person wants is your items not show you a glitch, also as it is written in the Runescape forums that there are no cheat for Runescape.

The scam that still occurs is the “fake dup scam”, this plot is a scam that we all heard of dropping an item and then being told to press Alt+ F4 or Alt+ W, causing the webpage to close, and the scammer getting the item. However it is being used as a prank then a scam, but still avoid it. Now as we further go through the dark world of scamming we see the ‘email scam”. This scam is seen throughout the entire internet, it will want you to put your username, password, and an item you want. Instead of getting an expensive item your account will get hacked, causing the player to lose their expensive items and hard working accounts. Since this is found out of Runescape gameplay many players specially new player do not know what it is used for. If you see this remember the golden rule of protecting your account, do not tell your password.

Now the most affective type of scamming that starting to be seen and has came up on the news before and is called “website traps”. The scam is very hard to tell since the website it looks like the original one. Also it has the same plot as the email scam but it will have the same log in look, fooling the player to type their username and password.  When you see a website like this at anytime report to Jagex immediately, this can help you and many players after you.

The next scam is called “become a member” scam, this is when a player will say “if you want to be a member press 111”. Then a player will type 111, and then the player so called offering the member ship will ask for the password. This is basically hacking a player’s account to take their valuable items. This scam happens to people who are level 23 to 31. Many of my friends have lost some of their most powerful accounts and expensive items because of these scams. What you should do as a Runescape player is report scammer you see, read the rules of Runescape, and only log on to Runescape official site. If you see a player doing any of the scams described on this article just simply avoid them. Good luck and have safe fun playing Runescape.
