Runescape’s Future
The future of Runescape, mostly about its popularity.
Many think Runescape will go “down” (unpopular) because of the newer games that are being released, while others (most play Runescape) think Runescape will go “up” because of rumors that say that Runescape 3 is going to be released. Personally I think Runescape will go “down”. Even if Runescape 3 comes out, it might go “up”, but then it will go back “down”.
When the first version of Runescape (now called Runescape Classic) was released it wasn’t popular at all since the graphics weren’t good.
Updates were constantly being made to keep the game from going too far “down”. But then they released
Runescape 2 (the current version). That made the game go up. But it went slowly “down” so they kept making updates, of which most are for Members. Because of this more players are becoming Members, but the ones that can’t be Members just quit Runescape. And since 8 million out
9 million Runescape players, Runescape is going “down”. Recently they started making more updates for Non-Members, like “The Grand Exchange”, to keep the Non-Members playing for a while. People that play Runescape a lot just hope that Runescape 3 is going to be released and will be a lot better than
Runescape 2. They hope Runescape 3 is going to be released because if a good update doesn’t come up, Runescape will go “down”.
Most players stop playing Runescape after about 3-6 months if they can’t become Member. This is one of the main reasons why Runescape is going “down”, most parents don’t want to pay for their child’s Membership. They think it is a waste of money. They are partially right. But if their child really wants to be Member they could let him be one for 3 months, he should be bored after that.

I totally agree with GoReadThis. I used to play runescape and got bored. All they ever did was update the members servers. The quests I had all completed, there was nothing else to do! I still find it boring as I go on it every now and again when I really do get bored.

ever thought it as a marketing technique so that the bored-ppl in f2p pays to become mem hoping to find some excitement (and they do!) Runescape is one of the games that you interact (role-play) with others in real life and you compete (in a sense by training variety of skills) also, unlike many other online games like runescape, u can kill other ppl
the only thing so bad about runescape that makes ppl wanna quit are the number of noobs, autos, macros, and the horrible terrible, ugly, bad, graphics. they need to make it better… just look at your guy’s top part if you go on runescape someday…its literally a box… >.< However, when they fix the graphics, I don’t think it will go down, instead as they add more stuff for non-members it will go up.

i still play runescape, i dont think it can go any lower then it is at the moment. there is no more wildy, so like half of the F2P people have left. now there is no more wildy, the game can only go 1 way, thats down.
Runescape is still pretty popular, and is a little more popular than WOW as of March. You can’t base your claims on the chart, because all MMOs have ups and downs. Infact, WOW employs the same tactic. They, also, keep adding updates to make people continue to play. ALL MMOs do that.
Basicly saying, you think its gonna go down, but, the truth is, its going to have its ups and downs until the game itself is done.
The main reason why runescape went down and alot will quit(until the update comes sooner or later) is when they took wildy and pking away(you can play only in duel arenas,bounty hunter,and other arenas that are for members) so riots started and then runescape falls apart..
Jagex should have make some wildy areas pking so that the ones who dont want to fight will go to the safe side…and make these codes(example “Copy the code into this box: XRQHN *box*”) so at least bots cant create accounts…
Just a suggestion to Jagex…
i used to get owned all the time in the wildy i all ways used to pick the wrong opnent but even iw want it back

good game but i bored i finish all quest and i got 999m in runescape and i got 12 blue p hat and 21 christmas crakers.

i played runescape the second or third year it was out.i was only like 7 or 8 and i thought it was a pretty cool game.but its really stupid that non members cant play runescape classic.yeah the graphics r great and everything,but this years graphic updates r a little too much.if jagex wants non members to keep playing runescape they need to bring back classic runescape for both non mems and mems.they also need to bring back the wild so we can get ourselves killed for fun and start pking again.without the wild its basically crap.yeah they added the clan fights.but we basically had clans to start with.if jagex wants runescape 2 last they should let us pick everytime we play what version we want to play on.give the players what they want but let them choose what graphics to use.rs will go up if they bring the wild back.

runescape have gone up so much but they got rid of the wildy have the people left but now the trying to keep the game going by improving the f2p ,the grand exchange tacked scammers the swear word filter blocks swears and the random events stop macroers and gets them confused and the 3k limit stoped scammers and real world trading,but lets mer chanters lose out on making profit (another bad thing jagex did) but in the end they tackled all the rule breaking things. they have realeased rs -HD but once its for members ,but if u think about it dont they do hard enough to keep the f2p players going on. also one last thing… i use to play rs for 2 years i was addicted i lost my life it ruined me, but then i saw the light and bought a psp, and quit rs BUT NOWADAYS my life feels empty and i just be on my ps3 24/7

Right now I think RS is awesome. I don’t know anything about the wildy, and even if I want to go there, I can’t and I have no hard feelings.

lool runescapes population is definitely going down. All my friends have quit and the only full worlds are world 1 and 2 and 1 or 2 pking worlds. Theres hardly anyone playing in the other worlds. Ive been playing for 5years and ive got 5 lvl 70 accounts which i am going to sell on ebay for £50 each. It is definitely a good way of earning money though.
trust me i used to play runescape for 5 yrs aswell and then i watched vids about people quitting runescape and why. They’ve got no social life, they are getting dumber and they are getting fatter(only a few). They wasted a lot of money for it and it is like a drug.

Its true. About 75% of runescape players are Free-to-play. The chain of horrible updates ( Such as the removal of pk-ing in the wilderness, the trade limit ect) has taken its toll by runescape becoming unpopular nowadays.
If jagex is reading this, here are the updates I suggest to you.
* A hang-out area. As you can see, many people are hanging-out in the lumbridge courtyard and in varrock square. Why? Because they are bored. So make it more fun! Put a place where they can hang out! Like how you found a place to put the Grand Exchange. Make it a large building, maybe, a 3 story building, where players can play games such as Tag and spray each other with waterguns or waterbombs ect, and can be able to buy goofy clothes there. Make sure its not a minigame, because people hate minigames because everyone wants to get the “reward” and insult people, make fun of people, in attempt to win, and make players angry. Both for F2P and P2P.
* All drops in PvP worlds and verse who-ever you like. Why only little drops when you kill someone in a PvP world? Why not all of them? If you get all the drops, people would most likely play runescape again. Also, make it so that people can verse any level they wish …. versing your own levels is just plain BORING.
* Elemental capes. Such as air, mind, water, earth ect. Obtainable through The Great Orb Project minigame with a cost of 2000 tokens. Making the mind to body capes Free-to-play and from body to on-wards, only for members. Each cape having identical stats to Team capes and allows players to enter the co-responding altar without a tiara, runecrafting staff or talisman. It’s appearance: Looks like a normal, coloured cape with the rune on it, eg. Earth cape: Brown in colour with the earth rune on it. Fire cape: Red in colour with the fire rune on it.
See? Even little updates such as this can bring people to play runescape.
Also …
* Minigames for all skills. Yes, we have The Great Orb Project ( Runecrafting), Fist of Guthix ( Magic/ Range/ Melee) and what else is there …. I cant think of ANYTHING ELSE! What about a woodcutting, firemaking, prayer minigame???? The Great Orb Project is a great minigame, so I can asure you 100% jagex, that you can make those minigames for those skills, exciting and possibly addictive. Whether they be F2P or P2P, it dosent matter, its up to you. ( Keep in mind Free-to-play advertises this game)
And a message to all you folks complaining.
DON’T COMPLAIN!!! BUT TELL JAGEX WHAT YOU REALLY WANT!!! Complaints dont help, helping jagex with your great ideas for the future WILL. So, Help them help you.

I want to start up again. however, i dont think i would like to become a member. That just seems like a waste of money. But since if you are not a member, the game is kind of pointless. So i dont think I am going to play. Either they should make Runescape 3 where there is more options for people who aren’t members, or make it so there are no members at all. I know that most of you are probably very angry about my last statement. But as you said, the ratings will most likely go down. So I think they should make being a member free and then stop making more runescapes. I think they already have enough money.
I was a non member for 8 months and I never quit. I am now a member and I think that Runescape will go ‘up’.
All you posters who think runescape will go down cause of wildy then you r a nooob and didn’t play for a long time. First of all if you want to kill poeple and random so much then just go to pvp worlds were everywere is wilderness noobs. Second you can bounty hunter and other fighting mini games and o ya did i mention they drop there items in bounty hunter o just like wildy right? And they completely updated the graphics to look real with fullscreen and if it causes lag for ur cpu it’s ur fault for having a slow cpu so its not jagex’s fault.
Thats the thing though. for the million or so people who know how good the game is, the game will neer “end” till they have 200mil exp in it. and even then they’ll just switch to mechscape and start working on that. lolz. btw, for those of you who dont know, mechscape is the now mmo jagex is working on. said to be released march 09
the parents refuse tp pay for subscription thing is easier to get around now sincetheres a pay by cash option for membership but still some stubborn parents like mine will just not even let you use YOUR OWN MONEY to pay for the membership with paybycash option
Hey Hey, guys, if you seriously want more people to become a member, then give Free-to-play’s a “Taste” of what members is really like. Sure, there’s gnome copters ….. but WTF.
All of what the free players can do in those flying wooden planks is watch …. and watch …. and BORING. Its best to give em a experience of what members is really like.
Like, give them a 2 hour experience on a members world ( Free players can only have 2 hours on a members world only ONCE, no more time will be given), BE ABLE TO WALK/ RUN ON FOOT ( Not on freaking flying wooden planks owned by gnomes) and able to talk to other members and can do ALL members stuff, and can wear members items (With the required levels of course), and also can summon a tour guide if the player needs questions answered and wants to find more info about something. BUT!!!!
BUT!!! (READ THIS PART IMPORTANTLY!), they arent capable of leveling up during the 2 hours(Either Free or Members skills), ALL items collected/ gained/ bought in the 2 hours will vanish, money spent in the members world will count even after the 2 hours is up (Example, you have 1M and buy a dragon scimitar for 300k, after the 2 hours you will return to a free world with 700k left) money gained in the members world will not be added on to your Free-play money after the 2 hours (Example, you started with 1M, but gained 10M in the 30 minutes, you’ll come back on a free play world with 1M again), and if your in a members area after the 2 hours, you will be teleported to Lumbridge.
Maybe ….. you can get these “2 hours” buy buying a ticket from some place/ someone or something costing bout 100k.
But my overall point is ….. IF YOU WANT MORE MEMBERS, LET FREE PLAYERS EXPERIENCE MEMBERS!!! IF THEY LIKE IT, THEY HAVE HIGHER CHANCES OF BECOMING A MEMBER!, IF THEY DONT (Which will be less likely), THEY WILL STAY A FREE PLAYER.
I am a member myself, and to all you Free Players out there … members is THE BEST! It is a way more fun, exciting, heart pumping experience and has with lots of quests to do, monsters to slay, lands to discover, and … treasure to be found.
But, the decision is up to YOU.
I love runescape and look how wrong you are its way more popular than before and with the new high definition sales of memberships are booming. and for the sumbission by bob the sales are going up due to the want of all these better things that really they never seen. Plus now there are prepaid game cards you can buy for about 25$ at the store and get 3 months. If your computer doesn’t work on HD than I would suggest getting a computer that isn’t 9 years old. To bob A there are more players than ever now. Plus nobody who hasn’t played runescape classic cant play it. I am not bored of runescape and I have bean playing for about 3 months on a members account. THE HD IS LIKE THE PSP GRAPHICS WELL MAYBE A LITTLE LOWER BUT HEY! ( = Your wrong now.

Yes, I understand its not meant to be offensive. Yes, Im aware that Jagex are updating the game more often than before …. BUT …. YOUR INFORMATION IS WRONG AND THOSE UPDATES ARE NOT UPDATES IN WHICH PERSUADE PLAYERS TO PAY FOR A GAME. Booming????? Popular????? WTF?! My ass it is. In 2005 - 2006, the highest ever number of people playing reached a top of 370,000. Look now, what do you see???? LESS THAN 120k PEOPLE ARE PLAYING. Sure, a tiny amount of people are becoming a member, but its not a lot to be able to be called as BOOMING, booming is like getting 2 thousand people to subcribe per day. Get your facts right.

A. If you think membership is booming and becoming popular, somethings DEFINATELY wrong with you. You can see in the types of words and phrases the jagex mods are using, they are implying that the population of members is going down and down.

Well that is one of the god reasons, but some people say its too hard. if any one here has played world of warcraft (WoW) in 6 months you can get to the highest level, average 2-3 hours a day. but when you get to the highest, what now? new character. but in runescape why most highest levels play because theres actaully a leader board. and most people of runescape are mad because of wildy, well JaGex did that because of all the 5 year olds crying about loosing there 100k. Also Runescape was in the guiness book of world records for most popular online browsing MMORPG. i see a clear future for runescape, because they are a hard working company making ALOT of updates compared to wow, because wow only fixes bugs, not much else. runescape gives a taste of the month for every month so people keep playing for that. P.S Rs3 isnt comin out for a while because they have to get all the bugs fixed, get the 6 year olds to stop crying, and there are many many bugs with runescape hd.

everything has its ups and downs but as long as jagex is working hard i think they can improve it back so that the popularity and people joining will increase compared to the people quitting

I think Runescape 3 coming out would be a big mistake for Jagex.
The popularity of Runescape 1 “classic runescape” was so low that Jagex could afford to make a new runescape and not lose money.
With a new runescape, most players that had high accounts in Runescape 2 would rather stay with it than make and raise a new account in Runescape 3.
The few people who did make an account in Runescape 3 would probably not attract much attention, and it would end up being a huge waste of resources for Jagex, which is why it is smarter to keep the present course of updating Runescape 2 and transitioning it into Runescape 3.
